I'm curious, when was the last time one of your big boys trekked SOUTH of the Macon-Dixie Line?:)

Tigers81 ... I think two Tigers signed yesterday to 'cross the Mason Dixon Line'?! Congrats to them.
Yes... this matchup is really more obnoxious than anything else.

Historically speaking Missouri is south of the Mason-Dixon line as the line was originally the dividing line between Pennsylvania and Maryland and then was unofficially extended by the Missouri Compromise leaving Kentucky and Missouri as slave states south of the Mason Dixon line.
So technically every game played in Missouri is south of the line. For what that's worth.

Trinity, apparently...bingo proceeds must be booming.

Colquitt County is paying transportation and lodging expenses for the trip, which is customary. Trinity will gain revenue for their program from the game and increase exposure for themselves AND Missouri High School Football overall.

There are numerous opportunities for many Missouri schools to play out-of-state competition. It might surprise you to know that a large number of programs choose not to because they simply don't want to invest the effort in setting it up and/or don't see the value in doing so. High School coaches in Missouri don't make much money. At some point, it's not unreasonable to imagine they decide to do as much as is required and pass on sacrificing from their personal lives. Just like any other educator.

Considering this, I guess there really isn't a downside for Trinity. The expenses are covered. They fill a spot with a quality opponent (I guess). They're supposed to lose, so, no harm there. They might win, so that's a plus.

If they’re a public school where do they get the funds to pay for the traveling and lodging for these teams to come play them?

Colquitt County pays their HC $134K a year and he teaches no classes. Just coaches. They built a $3.5 million indoor practice facility and in 2013 their football budget was around $500K. Paying a school $10K to travel and play them still leaves them with a profit from TV rights, gate and merchandise sales. If you compared Georgia's Activities Association and School Districts to Missouri's, it would piss you off every time you heard someone from MSHSAA proclaim how much they claim they're doing for kids.

You make valid points.

I, for one, would be concerned about it for different reasons. Anyone who is coaching HS football in MO and is concerned one iota about money is in it for the wrong reasons. If a staff works at it that way they need to, they'd be better off financially by clocking in at the QT.

It always seemed like every weekend didn't have enough hours to prep the way we wanted to. When we had to play on Saturday, it was even more of a mad rush to be ready on Monday. I can’t imagine pulling off a long trip on top of it.

Unless your opponent is trying to pull this off as well, I can see this being especially challenging.

Finally, the potential for some teen boy to screw up when out of town and in a hotel room would be a concern.

I thought of your points earlier, as well. With it being the 1st game of the year, Trinity doesn't have the shortened week to prepare. They've got the whole Summer (or a few weeks, at least).

Kids are gonna be kids, so the potential to screw up exists everywhere. Especially at home. If the concern for any coach about keeping his guys from clowning is THAT significant, then he's going to have issues all year anyway. I wouldn't NOT schedule a trip over that concern unless it was warranted.

The first point though? People work jobs to pay bills and support their families. Teachers and coaches can't eat oxygen, so compensation matters as much for them as anyone else. For football coaches, it's extraordinary what sacrifices they and their families make. In Missouri, no HS coach makes money like GA coaches do. I'm sure they'd like to, if given the chance.

Webb City vs. Springdale Har-ber. That is, if Webb counts as a big boy. Colquitt would never come to Webb, since they only want teams to play them in Georgia.

Are you boys gonna pay for OUR trip to MIZZZOU? We are paying at least $10,000 for the trip for Trinity! And we feed um after the game!

Vista Murrieta, Calif came down last season! And took in a Falcon's game at the new Mercedes Benz Stadium on Sunday!

I get the impression that you don't think that Colquitt likes to travel? In 2015, when we ended with our 30-0 run! We trekked to the ATL four times in a row in the playoffs, for about 2200 miles total! And with the traffic, THAT'S about an eight hour drive one way!

You GUESS Colquitt is a quality opponent? How bout national top 100 for the last nine seasons, playing in one of the top four states for high school football, in the country! And in 2014-2015, we were TOP THREE in the country! In order to win the 2015 state and national championship! The Colquitt County Packers had to beat three teams who had a cumulative record of 38-1, back, to back, to back, on the road, 200 miles away from the HOG PEN! And the last two were ranked in the Top twenty five in the country!

Just for giggles though, Colquitt was an untimed down from winning the GHSA 7A State Championship in 2017, after a pass interference call put the ball within FG range, for a 19-17 loss! Had that not happened, Colquitt would have had championships in three of the last four seasons! And according to Coach ProPst, with 40-50 seniors each season, 2018-2022 may quite possibly be the best run in the 105 year history of Packer football! SOOOOOOOOOO, there's THAT!

At the risk of sounding like I'm braggin! For games that are farther than a 100 miles! The Packers leave on THURSDAY, for the game the following night! Coach says that any farther, and a team doesn't play at optimum efficiency, unless they sleep locally, the night before the game! And they stay in a motel room the night before HOME games as well, to keep kids outta trouble! THAT, plus the team is fed three to four meals per day, EVERY day during the year! The coach wants to make certain, that the team is getting the proper nutrition all throughout the year! The football booster club,(350 members strong) various industries and stores in the community, and church groups, supply the food and manpower to GETRDONE! Every Thursday morning, a different church in the community supplies the breakfast menu for the team! The team has two team doctors, a certified full time trainer, two graduate assistants, and a tractor trailer rig for the 50th Regiment Band, and the Packer mobile training facility, for road games! THAT'S why we don't do LOOOONG ROAD games, unless we HAVE TO!

Sounds like you have plenty of money to go play a real road game. You just don't have the guts.

My diatribe was merely to indicate that when WE travel out of state, it takes six figures PLUS, because Coach ProPst ain't traveling without the WHOLE team and support crew! And NOBODY except maybe Gorman has that type of money to fund a team coming to them! HELL, we can make $75,000 plus and not leave home, versus PAYING $100,000 plus out of pocket, to travel! NOW, We're kinda SLOOOOOOOOOW but THAT don't make sense financially!

As an aside, we HAFTA have SIX home games, to quantify our 3000 season ticket holders paying $85.00 a year for tickets! If we had GONE to MIZZZOU, we'da had FIVE home games! And we're paying two teams $10,000 plus to come to the HOG PEN this season and next!

No guts you say? Have you boys ever played at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Birmingham? How bout Grayson Community Stadium in Loganville, Ga.? One was against a future starting CB for the Crimson Pachyderms! While the other was against the #1 DE in the country, Robert Nkemdiche, and Clemson starting RB Wayne Gallman!

And during our 15-0 run in 2015, we traveled 250 miles one way, four weeks in a row, in the GHSA playoffs! SCEEERED you say? Has ANYONE in MIZZZOU EVER played the likes of South Panola, American Heritage Plantation, Tampa Plant, Grayson, Roswell, McEachern, Hoover, and Bishop Sullivan, Va.! And Cocoa, Fla. cancelled on us last season, at the eleventh hour!

Look at the map! From Jackson to the ATL is a four plus hour drive, unless you are going at 3:00 A M! I live 80 miles from the 285 bypass! And it's a THREE HOUR DRIVE IF I'm lucky! The last sixty miles from Jackson to Peachtree Street is a PARKING LOT, especially on Friday and Saturday!

Through the 350 member Colquitt County Football Booster Club fundraising efforts, and membership dues! THAT, plus funds from various golf tourneys, and donations from local businesses, plus advertising in the stadium and on the weekly PACKER REPORT TV show!

Go on the freggin Georgia board. We dont care. You are playing a team from Mo that isnt even in the top 50. Play Blue Springs, Webb, Rockhurst or CBC...and we would all be a helluva lot more interested .

Traveling 250 miles one way four weeks in a row leaves you a 1,000 mils away from Colquitt County.

Yeah, I GUESS they're a quality opponent because, until this thread, I knew nothing about them. Since it's a MISSOURI football message board, we tend to concentrate on things going on in MISSOURI. There a plenty of folks posting on this thread who don't intend to disrespect Trinity, they have a very good team and have proven to be a quality opponent in Missouri Class 2 football. Now, considering the amount of time I've wasted responding to this thread, I still don't really care any more about Georgia high school football. Thanks for playing. Bu bye.
