You don't need any roads, bridges, clean water, police, firefighters, teachers or anything else your tax dollars now pay for? Remember Obama's "you didn't build that comment?" It had nothing to do with a person building their own business, it was all about the infrastructure that allows his business to thrive.

This is incredible considering you just made a post in the other thread giving Bush credit for a bunch of taxpayer funded government programs.

This is Veer's exact point about the hypocrisy of a lot of R voters. It's only bad spending when Ds want it.

I did not say I agreed with Bush on those programs. My post was to point out how Bush was a good man. A good man tries to help his fellow citizens, which he was trying to do.

And 3R, I use a lot less of the government services than the average taxpayer, guess that is where I get my opinion that I could do without a lot of said services.

Can somebody outside of a full blown libertarian/anarchist tell me where anybody on this board would say those things are not needed through government funding?

I have no problem funding road improvements in MY COMMUNITY. I have no problem funding education in MY COMMUNITY. That is the way it should be. I also have no problem funding our interstate highways. But I do believe their should be a toll of sorts. Those who use the roads the most should pay for them. Seems fair to me.

What I have an issue with is WASTEFUL spending. Which if you guys believe this is a well oiled machine, then I guess we are done here.

As a whole I wish the federal government would stay out of the state business more. But we can all dream can't we?

What happens when we have large national problems that can't be dealt with community to community? Things like natural disasters, Medicare, Social security? Should we just have state militias and no national standing army? The federal government usually funds 12% of school expenditures. Are you willing to make up that difference?

The founders tried a weak federal government approach. Didn't work. Would be even more disastrous now.

Do you believe that the government state and federal is a well oiled machine? If so, revert back to my previous post. Also see the part where it says "more" not "completely" out. For what we take away in some areas, can be applied to an area of need.

Are you telling me communities can not handle/shouldn't handle their own disaster plans? Why shouldn't a Gulf Coast city raise their own funds and have funds on hand to handle a hurricane that has nothing to do with Missouri? Why is that such a tall order? I don't expect them to pay for a tornado to hit here, they shouldn't have to.

Again, NATIONAL defense wasn't mentioned in my post. Not sure how you equate a community education and a section of road on HWY 61 to NATIONAL defense, but this is you we are talking about. I provide a few examples and you want me to answer every question about every level of government.

Education. Why should any of my tax dollars go towards an education other than a child my community? Why should I pay for kid that lives in the STL? I'd be MORE than willing to make up the difference. Always have voted yes for tax increases when it comes to education.

I'm not sure what the issue is other than inequality in schooling. Which is already the case. Might as well turn the responsibility as a whole on the communities.

Of course the government isn't a well oiled machine, but that has more to do with legislators not agreeing on anything.

You honestly think New Orleans could have dealt with Katrina? You honestly think Joplin could've payed for the tornado that destroyed their town? Um, ok.

National defense highlights my point. We have big national issues that states and communities can't deal with alone. Glad we agree on that.

We should care about kids outside our community because when all kids get a good education, it makes our country better, not just your little fiefdom.

Stay off the roads then and rather than pay your taxes send yourself and family members to go fight these stupid wars

Im not a war hawk like some , I think we should mind our own business and quit being the world police. One reason Im not ragging on Obama for his strategy in Syria.

As far as the roads go, if the government would give me back all the money it has stolen off of me in the last 35 years, i will gladly stay off the roads.

I would be retired, fishing in the pond behind the house. :D

If not for federal money we would have much worse roads and bridges than we have now and school taxes would be sky high. A LOT of what cities and small towns do is with matching funds to get the federal money needed to get things done. If they had to come with ALL the money most of the things they do now would NOT get done.
