My train of thought is a muddy field is a great equalizer. It eliminates a team's speed advantage. I also believe it benefits passing teams who can get the ball on the edge and out of the middle of the field. I noticed that Trinity and Lutheran North both have to play on grass fields unless game is switched. Worried more about Lutheran North than Trinity because of the offense that North runs. I still think on a dry field last year North beats Lamar.

Turf fields that have snow on them and frozen. Another disadvantage for speed teams. If it is icy, bring your tennis shoes on a frozen field.

Makes these games more interesting this weekend.

A wet football is easily fumbled too! Imagine a team fumbling in their own end zone because the ball was wet!

Lamar shut down three 1,000 runners and a QB who can throw and run. That wasn’t just a wet field. That was a top tier D. Both teams played on a wet field.

Yes outcomes can be effected by weather. I worry about LN and not Trinity. LN is playing a team that’s solid. So it could keep it close.

You might be correct. But as Doctor Tom Osborne once said, "We do what we do because we play where we play." I am certain you can be guaranteed that in Missouri from mid-October to late November "field conditions" will be a factor. So, might want to keep that in mind as one builds there team and their Offensive/Defensive schemes. Good luck to all still playing.

This is football weather. Lol Come on STL posters.

Great commentary and mostly right @STLFTBL ... I would just add [as others have] we have had an incredibly DAMP Fall in SWMO. Anyone playing on or practicing on GRASS over here in the SW corner of the state has had more 'wet field' than 'dry field' this season.
I go for years where I NEVER pull the weather gear out for football. It hasn't left my backseat yet this season. I would venture a guess that all SWMO teams have yet to play much time where the game plan was for perfectly dry conditions!
Good post.

Trinity is playing at Southern Boone, and it's my understanding that they didn't get any snow. Is LN playing at home? That field has the potential to be a mess.

Lamar didn’t generate any offense vs LN last year either. The difference was the decision to try and kick an extra point into the wind during the rain on a sloppy field. Either way, it mattered.

Caruthersville isn’t close to being as good as last year. Against Jefferson 2 weeks ago, they couldn’t hit open screen passes and looked slow. They’re in the quarterfinals for a reason though. LN hung 64 straight points on them last year and didn’t spread them out on defense w/ 4-5 WRs. This year, LN does that AND can run Read Option out of the Spread and still knuck up and run Grambling’s Wing. Caruthersville is going to get turboed. It won’t be close.

Pat was blocked. Not because of wind!

I was at the game. I saw it was blocked. Attempting to kick an extra point into the wind on a muddy field was a poor decision. The ball came off low and the kicker was slow because of the field conditions. It happened. Lamar won. If you think Lamar blocked it because Bailey is a SWMO HS Belichick or any other reason, then that’s fine too.

Jolene_Michael, what is football weather? Football is played in all weather, so that term means nothing. Hot in August, cool in October, cold in November. If you have ever coached, you realize that a wet field equalizes the game. If Trinity plays on turf, they will not be beat.

Anyone can lose during this time of the year. Come back down to earth please. This is why I don’t care for STL posters. Your exact response is correct, this is football weather. Raise above it and win. Otherwise you were not the better team. Nothing you’ve done before this week matters. Trinity was almost bested by Southern Boone. Deal with it. That’s part of football this time of the year. SWMO has had like 3 dry fields all year. And look at how many are still playing. Get out of here with that nonsense.

You are correct. At this point anyone can lose to anyone. Don’t hate on the STL because of people staying their opinions. No needs to come back to earth, just stating facts and opinions, that is what this forum is for.

Yes it is. But your statement about Trinity was stated as a fact. So that’s confusing. Can’t really say it’s a fact. Odessa and Maryville (the winner) and others have a legitimate chance to win. Trinity could easily go 0-4 with all this hype.

Maybe I should of stated "In my opinion, Trinity will not be beat if they play on turf" You do not want to play a speed team on turf. Jolene, you are correct, I will be rooting for Trinity, but Maryville or Odessa could beat them. I have much respect for the programs not in St. Louis, I just think this Trinity team has a good chance to win it all.

They do. We can agree on that. I think the STL teams that will most likely win are the following.
CBC
Trinity
That’s all I got though.

And I agree to that, those are the two favorites. Vianney, Ladue and Lutheran North have a chance, but there are teams like Carthage, Webb City, Blair Oaks and Lamar standing in their way. Maryville could also give Trinity all they want, I remember a Maryville team who handled a John Burroughs team that featured Zeke Elliot. Should be fun, hoping to watch the Ladue-West Plains game today on the stream.

And if there’s weather? And Maryville plays well in snowy and rainy weather. Could be really tough for Trinity.

Why are you trying to argue that field conditions don’t affect the game? Even if you had ACTUALLY played the game your “opinion” wouldn’t make sense. It’s great that you want to give a team praise for competing, but you really sound ignorant about the sport when you say weather and field conditions aren’t significant.

Who said they don’t? You definitely don’t lose solely on field conditions. That’s the argument being made here by some.

So now Southern Boone gets accolades for “almost” winning the game? Trinity DID “rise above it and win” and the better team won. You love to rail about STL posters and then jump on every rural bandwagon you see. Trinity won. Lutheran North beat the brakes off Caruthersville again last night. ALL weather is “football weather”. Just enjoy being a fan and stop trying to lecture to people that weather doesn’t matter. Stop it.

There is no single reason why ANY game is won or lost. It’s patently false to pretend a sloppy muddy field doesn’t benefit certain offenses over others and it flat out incorrect to say it doesn’t level the playing field toward a slower, smaller team. It mattered last night and it matters in any game.

Well said. Trinity did not play their best game, but let's not act like sliding in the mud all game while trying to make cuts did not affect them. Their game (offensively) relies on them making cuts and using their speed, and the mud definitely benifitted SB last night. No, weather is never the sole reason.

For those who don't know, if Maryville wins, then the game will be at Trinity. Trinity's field sucks ass, so the game will most likely be moved to a turf field. If Odessa wins, the game will be played on their turf field.
