Sikeston vs West Plains Thursday nite ......

So who knows about the # 6 in C4 West Plains ? We play them Thrusday nite at Sikeston

Train, West plains play in class 4 district 11. Logan-Rodgers is the 1st seed and West Plains ( 21-4 ) received the 2nd seed. West Plains has been known to score in the 40's but usually score in the 50's and 60's with a couple of games in the mid-70's and one 80 point game.

West Plains biggest win was against class 5 Springfield Kickapoo ranked # 9. I'm not sure about the personnel or if they got players eligible the second semester.
West Plains is a known football school but appear to be having a very good season in basketball. West Plains play in a good basketball league with the Springfield schools.

West Plains has been defeated by:

1. Logan-Rodgers---------57-37-----12-14-18
2. Springfield Glendale---56-48-----12-18-18
3. Springfield Parkview---57-48------12-28-18
4. Bolivar---------------------76-72------01-04-19 West Plains have not been defeated since 1-4-19. ( Over 40 days )

msubears, could give a better report then the above.

The Zizzers avenged their losses to Bolivar and Parkview the second time they played, beating both teams by double digits the second go around.

Zizzers won the Carthage Invitational, the Bolivar Tournament, and and placed 3rd in the Blue & Gold Tournament.

They’re not what you would call a flashy team by any means, but so far this year, they play defense well, rebound well, and just flat out get the job done.

I saw them play a couple of times, they don't have any "star" player just a lot of strong athletic kids who play well together. They do have a 6'8 post player who has signed to play football at Missouri State.

Chactic and wahoolives, It appears you guys have knowledge of West Plains and teams in class 4 district 11. West Plains is playing their best basketball of the season. Class 4 District 11 will be played @ Logan-Rodg. Logan-Rodg. defeated West plains 57-37 on 12-14-18. If West Plains and Logan-Rod meets again on 3-2-19 for the class 4 district 11 championship, who wins this game?

Metro I think it would be a lot closer game, I think it helps West Plains to have seen Rogersville's match up zone once, but I do think that Rogersville still has the slight edge at home and that they are slightly more athletic across the board. Should be a great game if it happens.

West Plains will come to a loud and full Sikeston Field House they will be celebrating the 50 th year of the Sikeston Field House and you will have 5 Sr starters that have a crazy record of something like 115W and 12 L playing in their last home game , and also Sikeston will be playing for a undefeated regular season. Should be an interesting game. As far as how Sikeston plays Sikeston has one of their most athletic teams they have had in a few years Trey Jenkins our 6’7 big man is one of the most athletic big men I’ve seen In a while and he’s been playing his best ball lately. We play a 4 guard lineup with all four 3 point shooters and all averageing in double figure I believe. They will play a match up zone and press most of the game.

I would consider West Plains a workhorse team with a bunch of tough, physical kids that seem to get the job done. They beat Rolla at West Plains in a close game where their big 6'8" kid dominated in the paint as the refs let everyone play. If this is one of Sikeston's most athletic teams, then my opinion is that will impact West Plains ability to get into the flow on offense and defense. I feel West Plains will come out of their district with a win, but will lose to Sikeston.

I attended the Rolla @ Pacific game last night. I think it's safe to say Rolla does not have the horses to win class 4 but those middle class 4 districts 5-12 could be up for grabs for two final four teams. Rolla could be in the mix.

I think the strength in class 4 is in district 1 ( Sikeston @ Cape Central ) and district 13 ( Grandview 21-2 ) . After carefully checking the returning players for last years class 4 state champions, Grandview . They have players returning.

If I was a betting man, Class 4 districts 1 and 13 will fill two of the four final four brackets in Springfield, 2019 and will be a favorite to win in all. I'm not sure who will be the Cinderella team in Springfield this year, maybe an average @ best team like the Borgia Knights if they win class 4 district 8 over host Hannibal.

Do we have other " Cinderella Teams " who will overachieve and punch their ticket and play in Springfield? We usually have one!

Just want to say what a great effort by West Plain very impressed with their coaching staff and players, that was not a good match up for us,hope we don’t see them again in the playoffs. Good luck the rest of the way.

What was the score and details of the game?

Listened on the radio.

Sikeston went on a 10-0 run to start the game, after that West Plains outscored them 29-7 the rest of the first half and took a 29-17 lead into halftime.

The bulldogs came back in the second half and the final score was 64-55 in favor of Sikeston.

Sikeston led by only two points with a little over 2 minutes left in the game.

The bulldogs definitely persevered, but I think West Plains definitely woke them up and showed the state that they can play with the best that Class 4 has to offer.

Pretty excited about districts next week and the likely rematch between WP and Rogersville.

So far this season, both times the Zizzers have got a second shot at a team they lost to earlier in the season, they’ve beat the team the second go round by double digits.

What was the score and details of the game?

I saw the game on the internet. Sikeston scored the first 10 points of the game but went cold for the last 12 minutes of the first half. The score @ the half was something like 30-17 West Plains. West Plains was successful in scoring inside after a slow start. It appears West Plains was lacking on outside shooting but had a strong inside game. Sikeston's Trey Jenkins was in foul trouble most of the evening because of the inside game of West Plains. West Plains appears to employ a match up zone or a zone with average @ best quickness. Sikeston plays a match up zone or some type of zone. Sikeston appears to have holes in their half court defense but has great outside shooting to make up for the Defense.

West Plains scores just under 60 points per game with a big inside game but appears to be lacking from a big outside game necessary for a deep run in class 4. .
Sikeston down by 13 points entering the 3rd quarter made a major adjustment @ the intermission. Kevin Jones was highly successful @ the high post and the Longs became " Lights Out " while the Bulldogs erased 13 points in the 3rd quarter. To start the 3rd quarter, Sikeston was now a major threat on the outside ( The Long twins ), the high post ( Kevin Jones ) and a low post game with Trey Jenkins. I can not be for sure if West Plains made changes @ intermission or was satisfied with their first half effort.

West Plains continued to compete until the last minute in the 4th quarter when Sikeston took a 2-3 point advantage to win the game by 64-55.

The worry games now begin for both Sikeston and West Plains as both teams have major challenges in district play. West Plains ( 2nd seed ) plays an underdog role @ Rodgersville by not by much.

Sikeston is favored by the coaches in class 4 district one @ Cape Central but with the second season riding, all bets are off on this one.

I'm betting a class 4 championship final between District 1 and district 13.

A big congrats goes out to Risco on their last second shot win over Scott County Central as South Irons waits in Sectionals.

I’d be willing to bet Sikeston doesn’t go 3 for 17 shooting 3 ‘s in the first half again

You don't know, The Risco-South Iron sectional game is a toss up according the southeast Missourian who follow the lower classes. I believe the Dora-Eminence game " Trumps " the Risco-South Iron game when talking final-four.

Train, The Sikeston Bulldogs may have problems with their outside shooting on occasions but usually plays thru it. The Sikeston defense could be a problem in a high stakes game where the offense have limited shot opportunities. As a rule strong half court defenses " Trump " great outside shooting. The Sikeston Bulldogs and the Cape Central Tigers are two very interesting high school basketball teams. The advantage should go Sikeston's way because the Bulldogs have defeated the Tigers two times this season. This could disrupt the " Confidence Level " of the Cape Central coaching staff and the Tigers players after all Coach Drew Church has instructed his players if " You follow our game plan ", We will beat Sikeston but they have failed twice this season.

Train, will Cape Central use the same failed game plan in a third meeting with Sikeston with hopes the home court advantage and the breaks comes their way to propel a date with Farmington in the sectional?

I think the two wins over Cape central this season " Trumps " It's hard to defeat a good team three times in a season. I'll take the two wins every time in a high stakes winner take all game.

Metro it will be very difficult to beat a good Cape team 3 times in a row but I will say this I’ll go with a Coach Holifield team every time he will have them ready

Train, Sikeston showed they can come from behind and win, West Plains had the Bulldogs on the ropes @ half time. Holifield made the necessary adjustment @ intermission. I liked the skillful 6'0" Kevin Jones playing the high post as an example as West Plains stayed pat.

I'll bet coach Drew Church likes to hear the Sikeston fans say " It's hard to beat a team three times in one season ". I'll bet coach Drew Church has posted " It's hard to beat a team three times in one season " in the Cape locker room. Church is also telling his players, we now play @ " Our House " and the Orange Wall thing.

Train who wins class 4 district one?

That’s a stretch for bulletin board material. It sounds more like humility to me. Sikeston fans are acknowledging that Cape has a very good team.

And as for who wins C4 D1 (even though you asked Train, and not me), we will find out next Thursday evening. Assuming Sikeston gets past the winner of the Dexter / Perryville game, then I will be there cheering on the Bulldogs!

rocketbro, I knew you would. The MSHSAA will be helping you cheer on the Sikeston Bulldogs. The MSHSAA loves to have a " Sea of Red " in Springfield. The bigger the Sea of Red, the bigger the profits for the MSHSAA. Rocketbro, your team is indeed the biggest high school draw in Missouri basketball. I wish some of the St. Louis area teams had the drawing power of a Sikeston.

I sometimes get discouraged when I see 500 people and me in the stands for a big game here in St. Louis. I was asking a couple of friends who are the biggest draw in St. Louis, Missouri, they came up with Borgia who could be a Cinderella team in Springfield. We could add Vashon and CBC to the list.

I've watched Sikeston quite a bit on the internet and I really enjoy their team...

I have observed, at least from my vantage point, that their offense slips a gear when Howard is not on the floor. It becomes a double-edge issue when he's a DNP, because ace 6th man Steward is on the floor from the tip. This is not a knock on Steward at all, but it throws Sikeston's substitution patterns off kilter and you run the risk of him picking up fouls at the same time the only other post presence(Jenkins) is on the floor, and he(Jenkins) does tend to be foul prone. When Jenkins and Steward are both on the bench, the interior becomes quite vulnerable for the Bulldogs, as was witnessed when PB made a late run at them as Bluff's 5'11-6'1" players were having their way inside......

When everything is aligned, Sikeston is VERY tough to beat, but they need to avoid foul trouble and injuries(yeah, I know....doesn't everybody). It's just a pretty steep slope to endure once they get to post season caliber of opposition.

Lets not forget the Dawgz have been without Payton Howard the last ten days or so. He is a HUGE difference maker, although he’s not flashy at all. You’ll think he didnt have a lot of impact in a game and then you’ll read the next day he almost had a triple double. Gotta gittm back healthy for distrixx!!! Also, the Orange Wall phenomenon is real. Cape starts every home game +5 cuzza that durn wall

I don't disagree with what you said marcus, but Clark Steward didn't play against Bluff. He tore his ACL in the Zumwalt North tourney. He has returned, but with quite limited mobility as you might imagine. But he's still Clark Steward and he's going to make winning plays.

I know Clark didn't play against Bluff(technically, he was on the bench, just in street clothes).....and when Trey went to the bench late, Bluff's undersized guys like Kilgore got a lot more done in the paint than if either of those guys would have been defending the post and getting defensive rebounds.

Having Clark back on the floor (even in a limited role due to injury) and Peyton back at full strength is a HUGE shot in the arm for the Dogs down the stretch.

I believe he will be unless he has some sort of set back.

rocket689 appears to be the " answer man " I have a question for you.

Sikeston 24-0 has the #1 seed in class 4 district 1------------Cape Central 23-3 has the #2 seed. Cape Central will host class 4 district one.

Cape Central's basketball squad's bench usually sits @ the opposites end of the " Famous Orange Wall " so their opponents will have the wall in the background for the second half.

rocket, here is the question------Since Sikeston will be the home team, will the Bulldogs be siting on Cape Central home bench and have the Orange Wall the first half? This is important because the Sikeston Bulldogs will need all the advantages they can get to board the " Bullet Train " to Springfield.

Class 4:

District 1----Cape Central 25-3 or Sikeston 26-0

March 5--Farmington Civic Center @ 6:00 PM

District 2----Farmington Knights--25-2

District 3----Hillsboro----------------23-4

March 5 @ Kirkwood 6:00 PM

District 4----St. Mary's-------------15-12
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the above teams will be ' Boarding the Bullet Train " for the final four in Springfield played on March 8th and 9th.

There was a situation @ Whitfield hosting a class 3 district. Hancock was playing the host team Whitfield in the finals. There was a discussion on who was the home team and where Hancock's bench was located. The rules are clear unless arrangement are made between the two teams.

If we get to Cape, I’m sure they will keep their normal bench while we will be the home team on the board and wearing white.
