I enjoyed watching the Sikeston Bulldogs 15-8 play the Washington Bluejays 11-12 last night. The Bulldogs had no problems controlling the game from the opening tip. Sikeston was much more athletic and quicker then the Bluejays. Mfloyd from Sikeston had the Sikeston-Washington game a " Toss up " before tip off.

I would like to see the Sikeston Bulldogs play a couple of our more athletic teams here in St. Louis, it would be fun to watch. I believe the Bulldogs could compete very well and rumor has it that Sikeston will upgrade their schedule in the next two years.

Sikeston's Fred Thatch 6'2" freshman appears to be one of the best players in Missouri with a big upside. Frank Haith from Tulsa University has already made a basketball scholarship offer to Fred. I met Fred's father last night and what a nice person he is. Fred Thatch may play for the St. Louis Eagles this summer to upgrade his national attention.

Sikeston will complete their basketball schedule by playing 8 games in the St. Louis area this year ( Counting DeSoto tonight ) The Bulldogs have lost one game and won 7 counting the DeSoto game as a win.

Here's Sikeston's St. Louis area schedule compiled by Athletic Director Andy McGill and head coach Greg Holifield.

1. Parkway North-----5-19 -------( Score 66-55--Sikeston )
2. Timberland----------11-12-------( Score 61-48-Sikeston )
3. Troy------------------10-14--------( Score 70-59 Sikeston )
4. Hazelwood East-12-13--------( Score 66-54 Sikeston )
5. Washington--------11-12--------( Score 64-47 Sikeston )
6. DeSoto-Tnight-----4-16
7. Zum. North--------13-10---------( Score 66-55 -Sikeston )
7. Zumwalt South----21-3---------( Score 80-82-Zum. South )

Its very apparent that Metro is bringing a demeaning tone to Sikestons scheduling. You play who will play. They lost two games last week due to weather and had to scrounge around to find a game or two just to be able to play games before districts. Im sure that the AD and head coach would love your input on next years scheduling. If you want to get your digs in on Sikeston, be prepared to have your own backyard exposed as well.

Barkleyfan, you are correct it's difficult to schedule games that were cancelled during the season. The AD and coach @ Sikeston had to schedule what was available. I must have given you the wrong impression about the Sikeston Bulldogs. It is my opinion that Sikeston is well coached, have talent and can compete with the top teams in St. Louis on the daily basic but would lose a few along the way. Sometime losing a few games can be healthy to expose correctable mistakes. Most of the teams in St. Louis play a slowed down game because of the lack of talent. I enjoy attending games with athletes who uses pressure defense like Sikeston.

I usually attend games in the St. Louis area who are rated in the top 10-15 who have the better athletes therefore I do not get to see some team play. I can truly say the Sikeston-Washington game was enjoyable to watch because of the athletes on the floor last night.

Appreciate the clearing up...they are definitely fun to watch. Very young, varsity experience wise, but gaining valuable experience.

Barkleyfan---I am a big fan of Southeast Missouri basketball, I always check the scores of the high school games being play in SEMO on the nightly basic. I know the scores of Cape Central, Sikeston, Cape Notre Dame, Poplar Bluff, Jackson and others the evening of the game or the next morning.

St. Louis is an area who has only a few teams who take basketball serious. Most public schools have no lower level programs to promote year after year success, Most of the St. Louis area teams have basketball tryouts, select a team and play a schedule and then do it again the next sports season.

Our private schools are much different. Privates schools see sports as being more important then public schools. I view Southeast Missouri basketball teams like I do private school----------- High School basketball is important.
