SENECA??

Ryan McFarland, former Webb assistant and most recently Riverton KS head coach, said on Facebook 30 minutes ago that he has accepted the Seneca job. Good luck Coach McFarland

it will be interesting to see how he received down there. They are big on home town boys from what I have heard. Chance Wistrom was there a couple years and wasn't really given a chance to build a program.

Yeah I hope they're receptive. We'll see how it turns out.

A lot of the community has been in an uproar down there from what I've heard on social media, upset about Mac Whitehead not getting the job. So I would expect a few bumps in the road. Hopefully they give him the chance build a winning program there.

Seneca hasn't hired a hometown boy in 16 years. In fact they've not hired three of them in the last 10. I think a lot of people in Seneca are more afraid of him leaving quickly. He was only in Riverton for two years.

In my comment earlier, I considered Townsend a hometown guy since he was an assistant there for several years before moving up. I also was talking about fans and parents wanting to promote within, not necessarily the board. I know social media blew up the other night down there supporting Mac when he said he didn't get the job. Hope they come around and give the new guy a chance.

Chance did a good job there. He wasn't worried about getting a chance there he was headed for a future in administration. My source tell me that Mac had a thing about bad mouthing Chance and others that coached there. It was more about him. I don't know if there was anything to it, just what I heard???? However it was what a good source that was upset with his approach to respect and loyalty.

You guys over use terms like respect and loyalty way too much on this board. Most programs around this state are ran by people who shouldn't be admin. Most coaches see right through them and coaches get a bad rap for not going with the Admin flow. The Admin paid alot of money for their degrees. No one disputes that! But as far as running a sports department, most are unequipped. When you have AD's that are former soccer coaches or girl basketball coaches. No offense, but do you really think they understand the big scheme of things. You get what you pay for. Show me a successful football program, and I will show you an AD that is a 1st tier former coach. Show me a unsuccessful football program and I will show you a soccer coach or a girls basketball former coach running the AD department. Those are just facts people!

Good points. There probably isn't a successful school anywhere that doesn't meet this criteria. Especially any school with a woman AD. Thanks for pointing this out.

Scheible moved back to the college level, OC at Central Methodist I heard. Townsend was well respected and had good teams, never heard why he left or where he went? The assistant coach is always the most popular guy on campus in these situations, so it's a given there'll be a few who question the decision. Former HC & Hall of Fame coach Tom Hodge is the AD at Seneca so I'm sure he had a big say in this hire, obviously he felt the Webb City guy was the best choice. Looks like the Indians will be going from the I to the veer.

Lamar High School sports have been very successful last few years and to think how much better they could have done if the girls basketball coach wasn't the athletic director. ;)

I guess the counter-point to this concern would be Whitehead has been at Branson, Seneca, NEO Jr College, Pierce City, Neosho, and back to Seneca within the last few years. None of those stops after Branson were more than a few years, some them just 1 season. Even though a hometown favorite this has to raise some eyebrows in regards to longevity at the HC position, especially since he was rumored to have interviewed for the Aurora job last summer.

Thank you. But no system or personal opinion is perfect. I should have been more specific and for that I apologize. I do not follow Class 1 or Class 2 sports. Hardly any Class 3, but some I do in Class 3. I could not tell you who a Class 2 AD is or not. So for not saying, big schools in my earlier post I apologize and thank you for discrediting everything I said. I would say Lamar football has made a nice run the last 4 or 5 years. But I couldn't tell you exactly or a single player on any of their teams. I am a sucker for following kids that go on to play college ball. It is a curse, I know! I live with it daily for not following the small schools. I will wake up tomorrow and try again!
