SEMO boys are usually in the running for state championships in classes 1, 2, 3 and 4. SEMO only has two class 5 teams. Class 1 Gideon and class 2 Bloomfield lost in the semi-finals tonight in Columbia. SEMO's only chance for a boys state championship in 2016 is class 4 Sikeston who will be playing in the quarter-finals this weekend. The odds on a boys state championship for SEMO this year is ' Against even odds ".

SEMO has won a boys state championships every year but two since the year 2000.

Girls basketball in SEMO appears to be on the rise.

Class 1------Naylor------------------Playing for a state championship this weekend
Class 2------Neelyville--------------Playing for a state championship this weekend
Class 3------Saxony Lutheran----Playing for a state championship this weekend

Class 4-----Dexter -----------------Playing in the quarters against MICDS this weekend.

The ladies in SEMO appear to be making the case ------" We are the power now ", not the boys when talking about winning state championships.

Could we have comments concerning the " shift in power " from the boys to the girls when talking about winning championships?

I'm very happy to see 3 SEMO girl's team in the Final 4 AND in the championship game and I hope they all prevail. That said it seems to me you're getting a little ahead of yourself when you say the girls have surpassed the boys in SEMO when it comes to winning state championships. NONE of the teams there this season have ever won a state title. I hope that changes this weekend but your comment on the subject is strange at best.

Not sure the ladies are anywhere near the success that the boys have experienced. Just between Scott County Central and Charleston there are 29 boys state championships. Charleston with 11 and Scott County Central with 18. Scott County Central most recently won the Class 1 boys state title one year ago.

SCC girls used to go right along with the boys but didn't win it all on many of those trips. Park Hills girls won it last year from this part of the state, but I can't think of any others that have. Dexter has been a few times, Farmington girls a couple of times, did Farmington win a title one of their trips? Cape ND has been there but I don't recall them winning it. P.B. and Jackson have been many times between them with no title and Doniphan also went. There have been a few different SEMO boy's teams that have been there and won it all more than once. Some of the girls teams are doing great but they will have a hard time catching up with the boys as far as winning titles even if you take SCC out of the discussion. I just hope the 3 that are there now can come away with the big prize.
