HS Basketball player plays for School A. Parent moves into new house outside of district of school A into district of school B over Christmas break. HS player (and their multiple siblings) continue to go to school A for second semester to at least finish out the school year. HS player plays in multiple games in 2nd semester at school A. HS player then proceeds to get suspended for disciplinary reasons from the basketball team at school A. After getting suspended HS player goes to and participates in practice at school B, while still being enrolled in school A and being at school A in class during this day. A few days later, HS player withdraws from school A and enrolls in school B, when would said player be eligible to play varsity at school B? Next school year? 365? 5 days after enrolling? Immediately? Does it all boil down to school A checking the "transfer for athletic reasons" box and nothing else? Tried to decipher a legitimate answer from the MSHSAA handbook, but I really wasn't sure what that answer would be.

School B would have to fill out the transfer work for said student and fill out as full-family move since the entire family moved into the next school district. From my experience, once the full-family move is placed in then there is really nothing school A can do, if I am remembering correctly.

365 because already played for team A. In addition, it’s against rules to participate with team B while still at team A. I’d love to hear”hypothetically “ what schools you are talking about.

Already playing for team A doesn’t mean anything, if there is a full family move.

A girl last year in the Joplin area went from playing for College Heights during the 1st week of January to playing for CJ the 2nd week of January.

It does matter in situations. The rule has changed some. In the past, playing with two teams in one season was not allowed period. Per MSHSAA rules, the suspension must be continued and completely served at the second school. Was the suspension permanent? If so, student is ineligible. Also, MSHSAA can deem the move of districts “not necessary “. You said only one parent moved, which is not a full family move. MSHSAA finds ways to pick and choose. It doesn’t look good that the student only transferred after being suspended from the ball team.
