Self proclaimed best fans in baseball

He had a Willie McGee jersey on so no one said he was intelligent. Willie McGee, the only major leaguer I have ever seen who was actually picked off twice by the fake throw to third, snap throw to first move.

THAT'S QUITE ENOUGH BASHING MY FAVORITE PLAYER!

(ok, I'll give you he was dumber than a box of rocks, and probably did a metric ton of rocks, but there hasn't been a more glorious sight to me than him gliding from first to third on a routine single in baby blue.)

Moniker given to the fans by everybody but the fans. Granted a select few will preach it, but they're idiots. Lets not pretend players haven't preached this a time or two.

Second, that guy is an idiot.

Have you ever been to Wrigley? I have a handful of times in the past. I had a friend that was going to the arts school in downtown Chicago. She lived off of Addison and Lakeshore. Could walk out her door and see Wrigley. That place is nothing but a social point for the hipsters and well-off of Chicago. 90% of the stadium has no idea what is going on with the game.

Whatever.

They support their team during the most trying times. If the Deadbirds had a streak like the Cubs do, the stadium would be empty, or move to Arizona or New Mexico or something.

If only the Cubs could play the Deadbirds more often they could be a playoff contender. They lead the overall series going into this year: 1,180?1,126, with 19 ties.

Let's see, go to Chicago, hang out in one of coolest and funnest towns in America; or go to St. Louis and hangout with high strung east-coast wannabees. Heck, even the per capita murder rate is higher in St. Louis.

We had a similar time - it's known as the '70s. Still, we never occupied the basement so I really have no frame of reference to what you speak of.

I literally rolled when I saw this.

You are leaning on the 'oughts and teens' very heavy in this stat. 143 to 281 in favor of the Cubbies in those two decades.

Take those two out, and you have the '20s (somehow, but only by 9 games), the aforementioned '70s (by 10 games), and inexplicably the new 'oughts' (by 6 games). So, in your heyday in the War to end all wars timeframe, you held a wopping 138 game lead in the series. It's now down to 54 games. I'd say you need to play us less.

It's a competitive series overall (as are most in baseball), but just for fun, let's compare accomplishment:

World Series - 11 to 2
laugh.r191677.gif

Pennants - 19 to 16
Division titles - 12 to 5
eek.r191677.gif

Wild Cards - 2 to 1

Individual player accomplishments:

MVP's - 20 to 10
Cy Young's - 3 to 4
Rookie of the Year - 6 to 4
Manager of the Year - 2 to 4
Gold Gloves - 86 to 38
eek.r191677.gif

Silver Slugger - 29 to 21
HOF - 11 to 11

If they are the deadbirds what would you call the cubbies. (Losers) no matter what head to head stats say because you have to play everybody in the league. Really lame statement

While Wrigley is still a place to watch a game in your lifetime, it's still a stadium filled with yacht attire and uneducated fans.

To think that the Cubs are anywhere close to the Cardinals as an organization is really a laughable. They're not called the lovable losers for no reason.

That last sentence hurt my head. Uneducated fans followed with....They're not called the lovable losers for no reason. Maybe try this; They are called the lovable losers for a reason. There is your education.

All i have to say is....enjoy it while you can

Guys like: Bryant, Baez, Soler, Russell, Alcantara, Almora, Schwarber...along with Castro and Rizzo will all be saying hello sooner than you guys wish. Money to spend and talent to bring up into Chicago...man, it's a great time to be a Cubs fan.
party0023.r191677.gif

Because Theo Epstein has been running the Cubs for that long
roll.r191677.gif

The Cubs have never spent the money or the time on real scouting and development. That's why they have never had a farm system that was worth a crap. Heck, they are getting ready to release a former 3rd overall pick, which shows how poor the scouting used to be. Theo comes in, and 3 years later the system has been rebooted with better scouting, drafting, and coaching. As a fan of anyone in the NL Central, you'd be ignorant to say you're not worried about the Cubs getting the ball rolling in the last couple years.

Only time will tell, so if we are still pecking away on this site in 3 to 5 years we should have our answer.

Remember when Wood and Prior were headed toward the HOF

Those two were going to lead the baby bears to 4-5 WS
appearances, remember??. We are talking "can't miss superstars".
Then Zambrano was going to be Juan Marichal.

Bahahahahaha, Cubs.

Re: Remember when Wood and Prior were headed toward the HOF

Wood and Prior were the beginning of the arm injury stage of the MLB we are in today. And those two are identical to one of the most complete College hitters taken out of the Draft
flush.r191677.gif

I've never once heard anyone say anything remotely close to Big Z being Juan Marichal

I'm just hoping they dont skip any Waino starts against the Cubs later this season. It's always fun when he grooves a few pitches

Re: Remember when Wood and Prior were headed toward the HOF

It's more fun watching Waino close out a World Series victory.

lol I forgot about Big Z. What a joke that dude turned out to be.

Re: Remember when Wood and Prior were headed toward the HOF

132 wins. 1600Ks. 120 ERA+. Not great, but far from a joke

Re: Remember when Wood and Prior were headed toward the HOF

You guys must all be KU fans too. That is the same type of arguments I hear from that side of the border.

Pretty similar being a Tiger fan to KU, as being a Cubs fan to the Deadbirds if you think about it.
"how many titles have you won??"
"Wait til baseball season!!" Our city has one major sport!
"head-to-head means nothing, if you eliminate the time period when your team was hot!"

And then there is how professional the Deadbird organization acted in the last two games of 1985. Let's blame 4 losses on a call at first base against a guy that never made it passed second base. Classy. And so are all of the paintings of The Call all over town still. Of course you guys seem to forget the 4th inning of that game. Frank White stole second base when it was scoreless, but was called out. Replays later showed that White had been safe, and the following batter, Pat Sheridan, hit a single into the outfield that would otherwise have scored the run. That must make you guys really proud to still be complaining about one call from 30 years ago over a series you didn't deserve to win anyway. Wasn't that the worst BA in Series history??

What a reach!!!! Bad call by ump vs. A goat and some kid with a glove in the stands. Bottom line total up Division championships 19 and world series 11 or 12 I can't remember anyway when you find out how many of those the cubbies have let me know and we will debate who is better!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you total the Deadbirds up twice....and Yankees still have more

The Yankees have lost more than the Deadbirds have won

Nationals/Expos and Mariners have never been

Astros, Rockies, Padres, Rangers, Rays and Brewers have never won

What's your point? We just wanting to do math?

1. Until recently the Blackhawks were not that great, granted the Blues are the Cubs of Hockey. So when they use that as their stepping stone are they like KU fans? And the Rams haven't been good, but still have a more recent Super Bowl than the bears.
2. If you want to include the 1901 season, I could careless. But lets not act like the Cubs are anything close to the cards since 2000(well maybe since the 40's).

Cubs have three playoff series wins since 1980. THREE. All resulting in a loss in the NLCS. THEY HAVE ZERO FROM 1985 TO 1945.

WHAT IS YOUR POINT????

Whats the point??? I thought we were talking Cubs and Cards. Cub fans have nothing. They have nothing on the Cards. And that eats at them.

That is my point. You sound just like KU fans.
"How many Final Fours have the Tigers been to since 1945??"

Except there is no comparison for basketball between the two cities, since StL hasn't had one in years. And your football comment I guess means once again you want to select the history that fits your arguments. Chicago has more than twice as many titles in the four major sports than StL (27-13). Plus two more in MLS and Arena Football. And NY has 3 times as many baseball titles as StL. So you're not the best sports city, nor are you the best baseball city. Period. But you are the best self-proclaimed fans in America, I guess.

Bottom line, I would much rather go to a Cubs game and hang out with Cubs fans than over-hyped arrogant Deadbird or Chickenhawk fans. In fact, I am going this Sunday. Cheers.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT BASEBALL.

We weren't comparing towns on football or basketball or hockey. WE WERE TALKING BASEBALL. And when we compare the two, STL is better than the Cubbies. NOT EVEN CLOSE. You sound like an MU fan when basketball is brought up with a KU fan, "yeah well, wait until football season."

I like the Yankees so what is your point. I will assume you changed from Cubs to all other teams as a sign of defeat in the Cards vs Cubs debate!!

Is there much of a debate?

There really isn't a debate when you look at the teams head to head

Ohhhhh wait... You guys again will decide which decades to throw out, because it just eats at you that the Cubs have a winning record in the rivalry. So you'll sit here and say "the deadbirds had a bad start to their organization.....the 70s were bad"....but then you'll turn right around and say the Cubs have been awful for over 100 years.

YOU'VE HAD 100 YEARS TO BEAT THEM! WHY CANT YOU

I'll take losing to the Cubbies more times than not over not winning a dang playoff series. Cards have more playoff series wins in the last 5 years than the cubs have in the last 70.

So ok, you're right the Cubs have been better obviously. Give me a break.

Holy crap, dude. You are the one that brought up the Blackhawks and the Bears, not me.

Back to the point on attendance. No way in HE!! the Cards draw almost 3 million fans during a 100 loss season. Lovable Losers, sure. But they are ten times more fun to hang around than you guys.

And you are right, I sound like a Tiger fan because I am one. My alma mater has more than one sport to root for. And last I checked we won the last Big 12 Tourney we played in, not the Chickenhawks. They are the ones that stopped the rivalry, not the Tigers.

You continue to prove my point. Deadbird fans or no different than Chickenhawk fans.

I just hope the Cubs win on Sunday. I was thinking today that I have seen the Cubs play the Cards 3 times over the last 15 years or so, and the Cubs have won all three. Also saw McCutchen and the Pirates blast the Deadbirds by a truckload in 2012. I hope my streak continues.

Good grief man are you brain dead? YOU BROUGHT UP THE TITLES OF OTHER SPORTS TEAMS IN THE PREVIOUS THREAD.

And the rest of your thread is mute. Good job on all three of those wins you saw. I'm glad you have some joy. You'll never come close to what we get to see more years than not.

I give up Cards you are right! The Cubs beat the Cards yesterday they are clearly a better franchise than the Cards. I don't know what I was thinking!
