A source says Cardinals offered Scherzer 6 years @ $26 mm/per. He says he wants an 8 year deal. They are getting pretty serious.......

Boris is not going to let his boy sign until he gets top dollars and max number of years. So it is going to be 8 years minimum and $26 million might be enough, but I'm guessing 28 to 30 million. Late Jan. to early Feb.

I don't think he'll get that much. 8 years is too long for a 30 year old pitcher. I'm thinking he gets 6 or 7. Teams are learning a little about contract lengths needing to come down now that 35-38 year olds can't be on steroids.

Rumor is out there about Shields to Detroit; that would thin the market some.

I agree NM, but I believe that is why Max has not signed yet. I am sure there have been some 6 years and 25 million offers made, but Boras will hold out in an effort to get more for is client

It's difficult for me to imagine him getting less than Lester.

6 years, 28-30 M feels like the winner.

On the Cardinal's website as of yesterday Mo still says he sees no real need to go after a big money free agent with the current crop pitchers available on their roster. He said he is getting very good reports on the health of Garcia. If he is truly healthy it could change the look of their staff coming out SP. Still sounds to me like he wants to take a wait and see approach which would mean NOT getting a big fish now.

Jon Heyman is reporting it's down to two teams on Scherzer. One of them is the Nats. Reportedly a seven year deal being discussed.

And the other is? Mo trying to fly under the radar while bidding on the big fish?
