Lee's Summit West alum Dwane Simmons was shot and kiiled early Sunday morning in Topeka. He was apparently out celebrating with Washburn teammate and NY Giants draft pick Corey Ballentine. Ballentine was shot as well, but is expected to fully recover.
Simmons was a part of the LSW 2013 Class 5 State Championship team along with Logan Cheadle, Kevin Pendleton, Ryan Williams, and Monte Harrison. West beat Parkway Central in the state championship game. That PC team included Chiefs 3rd round pick Kahlen Saunders.
