This is for you rules/stats gurus. If defensive player "intercepts a "lateral" is he credited with a "pass" interception or with a fumble caused and recovered?
 
I believe it is a fumble recovery. Interception would be on a forward pass. But I am not completely sure.
 
not sure on the history of how it is done but i would make the argument that since a lateral is not a forward pass it cannot be an interception, therefore it would have to be a fumble being the definition of fumble is when a player who has possession and control of the ball loses it before being downed, scoring, or going out of bounds.
