player shoots the ball. the ball is in the air. player on his team commits a foul. ball goes thru the basket. do the points count or are they waved off? another play happened last night. player gets a breakaway. defensive player catches him from the side tries to strip him. gets his hand on the ball. not really very violent. offensive player takes a dribble and lays the ball in the basket. official counts basket calls intentional foul. it becomes a 6 point play. i realize the call was official interpretation and not a rule but just a weird situation and as you probably guessed both calls went against us

Here is an eligibility question for you.

A coach is hired in a school but lives in another district The coach enrolls his kid @ the same school a year after being hired. Is the kid eligible? If the kid is not eligible " Would the kid be eligible if he enrolled within five days after the coach reported to work? Do we have a basketball scholar out there who can answer the above question?

my interpretation of that is whether the kid had played a varsity sport in his previous school. if so he would be ineligible for 365 days

Had one last night that I had never seen. A player was called for a violation for swinging his elbows, but not called for a foul because he did not make contact. I did not realize that was a violation if you didn't make contact.

I think both were correctly called if the foul was in fact intentional.

In the first instance basket should count, the ball has been released before the foul. Second one, the basket should not count, dead ball with the foul and you cannot continue with a dribble. The swinging elbows without contact being a violation has been around for a while, just not called very often.

Bone hope everything is well.

Thanks. Love learning more about basketball rules. I think it is good for fans to know the rules. I find that many fans getting mad at refs for correct calls because they don't know the rules.

The one that I remember was a guy behind me that kept yelling "3 seconds" while a team was missing shots in the lane and rebounding. He didn't know that a the 3-second count re-starts with a shot.
