For those of you running RPOs.

1. What are your coaching points for your linemen? Any issues with them climbing to the 2nd level and getting flagged for illegal man down field if the qb keeps and throws it? Is it all zone blocking or do you gap block anything?

2. I know this is a vague question, but what is your quarterback reading? What are his progression of reads?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Theoretically it should all happen so fast that when zone blocking your guys shouldn't get up field. Depending on the route will determine read but typically it's going to be the olb. Most popular route is a stick.

If your a true spread team..

1. Have your QB count the number of defenders in the box. If you can get a 5-6 man box, you need to be handing the ball off. If you get a 7 man box, you know the Pass option should be happening.

2. Teach QB to find safeties to flat defenders first. That can determine what RPO concept you will use.

3. Baylor does a good job of determining who the box defenders are. That's a big reason you see them stacking the WR's at max splits.

Hope this helped.

I know that his record at Branson does not show it. BUT, Coach Henderson down there does a really nice job with this. RPO you need to give him a call. He just needs more Jimmy's and Joes's. Which he is building. Good Luck

1... Ball should be out by the time you get flagged. Run both zone and gap schemes. The OL thinks run every play. It's not their job to worry about if the ball gets thrown.

2... Depends on the play. Usually the force defender so it depends on the scheme. Can also read the ILB.

I looked at some Branson film, and I noticed many times that the O-linemen were clearly downfield well before the pass was thrown (past the LOS), with no flag. I obviously didn't watch a ton of their film, but I wonder how often they were flagged for that versus how often they committed the potential penalty.

Thank you for your answer and the suggestion, just thought this was preferable to the d*ck measuring contest between Mizzou, FSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and whoever those people, and they know who they are, want to bicker about.

You forgot to mention Ampipe football! Granted most people on here only talk about the Walnut Heights game....

Gubba Bump if you are still looking for a RPO system to study. Goto X&O Labs. they just put out a 4 section study on the RPO system. Over 145 pages of great stuff. You may need to be a member to get all of it. It only cost I think $40 a year. A lot of great information on everything we do in Football.
