"Mixon was suspended from Oklahoma after an incident at an Oklahoma mall in July. According to police affidavits Mixon punched a female in the face and she was knocked unconscious and suffered a "fractured jaw, fractured cheek bone, fractured sinus, and fractured orbit which caused a hematoma on the left eye."



The alleged incident was captured on surveillance tape and shown to Oklahoma media early in the fall."

In the eyes of the law, unfortunately, you are right, its not that big of a deal... and that is kind of sad.

And I completely believe that he would have been playing at many, if not most big time schools. But, that being said, I would not have had a problem at all, if Stoops would have sent him packing.

Stoops could have dismissed him and I wouldn't have had a problem with. It should be noted that the "victim" in this case allegedly used a racial slur, was drunk and belligerent and slapped Mixon in the face before he hit her. That I'm no way excuses him for retaliating and thus deserving of the punishment he received.

There has already been some sort of action. OU's coaches saw the video and suspended him for a season. You can argue that he shouldn't have been able to plead to a misdemeanor but that is the result. If he would have shoved her back or slapped her it probably would have been a misdemeanor (or less). She was drunk and belligerent and had he shown restraint he probably would have had an assault case against her. Instead he decked her and certainly deserved punishment.

I will say he came to Oklahoma with a very good reputation out of high school and reportedly has never had a drop of alcohol. What he did was not excusable but he could have transferred back to the west coast and would have been eligible this year but chose to stay in Norman and take the suspension. Whether or not you think he deserves it or not he will get a second chance.

Actually I was telling Jake with state farm than action had been taken. I one year suspension for what legally was a misdemeanor is taking action. OU even suspended another player for a year for an incident where no legal action was taken so I don't think they are that soft.

If it were me I would have kicked him off the team. I think Stoops probably should have done the same. I'm not going to be outraged that Stoops gave him a second chance. I don't think Joe Mixon is going to be a menace to society.

1) Yeah,they are. Drunks make dip$hit choices....like drive drunk. I mean, I get it....Cabs cost upwards of $1,000 per mile. It's also impossible to find someone sober.

2) You're right, one stupid choice of hitting 1 person with a fist is so much worse than endangering the lives of everyone between Point A and Point B of a drunk driver. I'll remember the hierarchy of stupid choices next time
