I think Kearney will roll in this one. Offense finally has a pulse and the D is phenomenal. K-town 38-14

Coach Minnick knows this Kearney staff and players well. I think he will give them all they can handle. He's an early favorite for area coach of the year.

How about the fact that this is even a discussion topic? Shoutout to Coach Minnick and staff at Raytown. No winning seasons since '91 and minus 6 turnovers against Park Hill South and they'd be a 5-1 team headed up to Kearney tonight. Not sure the Bluejays will be ready for the physicality and environment their heading in to, but wouldn't be shocked if Raytown gives Kearney a ball game.

Kearney pulls away late 35-21...

After finally witnessing K in person tonight would say the D is anything but phenomenal but was better after halftime. If Kearney thinks this Raytown offense (very sorry to see the super Soph QB injured late in the 3rd) is potent just wait. The next two weeks (Staley and Platte County) are far, far superior.

The traditionally championship caliber teams we have frankly become a bit spoiled/used to up here would've lit this Raytown team up big time. The Jays had no running game at all and two primary receivers (liked #14 in particular). Kearney frankly seemed quite lethargic the first quarter in particular. Do that next week at Staley and that one will get away very, very fast.............

Kearney rolls.........then Staley next week?
Prior to seeing K in person I was becoming convinced they could hang with the Falcons perhaps even upset them. Certainly do not feel that way after tonight, sorry to say. Were one to ask I would say Staley by 3-4 TDs.

Another little tidbit...............always schedule a relatively easy one (if possible) on Homecoming night.

That, for me, was the real head scratcher when looking pregame at this Raytown team. PH South is clearly way, way down this year.

Typical of Raytown, they look like world beaters in the 1Q, then gradually collapse as the game goes on... Fatigue makes cowards of us all. I saw one team that lives in the weight room, and one team that doesn't. Kearney was BY FAR, a slower team. #14 Gocinti for Raytown made it look like it was easy. But when it came down to it, Raytown's line got their butts handed to them in the 4th Q. Typical Kearney.

I think they have a shot at playing Battle for the district title but no way they beat the Spartans. As for Kearney I sure hope they come out with more fire next Friday. I would have to think, underdogs as they will be, that will happen.

That was another facet of the game that surprised me. Last night's K pass defense and overall team speed resembled last year.

I would pick Raytown to beat Battle by 2-3 scores

It will have to be a very high scoring result. Coach Minnick and staff have done a near miraculous job getting them competitive and building a very good passing game. Just not sure they can continue to get away with not running the ball. The other HUGE factor is the status of their starting QB.

QB would be the main issue. "Running the ball" is irrelevant in a air raid offense. The run game is built in to the passing game (screens, quick high percentage throws) where an incomplete pass is the same as a run for no gain. If you have fewer incomplete passes than you do runs for no gain, why would you run the ball?

As I understand it they were upset by Park Hill South due to numerous turnovers. They had several the second half of the K game as well. Hope nothing but the best for them but still would favor Battle in that district (we will find out about Smith-Cotton Week 9 when they play Center).

Sounds like you dog fans are complaining we have no QB we have no D oh maybe a little butt hurt cause you know Webb is better this year.

You are a sad soul, whomever you are. I call things as I see them. Let's converse about meeting when/if that day comes in November. CJ is your threat and K has a whole bunch of them that, from what I saw, could give them all they can handle on a given night.

Well Daddy has been silent all year figure he knows the truth about your pretender team or he would be on here spewing some trash.

It's a very good D - there's a weak spot or two, which need to be fixed. I'm not sure that Coach Grey will make personnel moves though... Raytown's speed posed a challenge - fortunately, they're not going to see anyone like Gicento in class 4 (sorry webbies)...The D still made big plays when it needed to (some critical sacks.)

I'm not confident of a W at Staley this week, but I think it will be a great test going into Districts (Staley got PC by 5 TDS - I don't see that happening on Friday night), and is a lot better preparation than Smithville's tour of Class 3.

I agree on Smithville. No offense to the MEC but nobody in that league compares to this Staley team K will see Friday (and PC already saw). I do agree on K's D, too, in the second half. Made some key adjustments. My old school shows in games like this I am not a big fan of spread, shootout FB.
