If the Cleveland Indians had to change their name, how does Kansas City get away from not having to change their name Chiefs?

“H. Roe Bartle was called “Chief” long before he ran the city. Bartle supervised a Boy Scout troop while working as a young lawyer in Lebanon, Ky. He decided he liked organizing better than the law, so he accepted a position overseeing all Boy Scout activities in Wyoming.”

Agree. Redskins (still shocked Snyder changed it) and Indians must change their names. Chiefs and Braves still holding on to their names. Wonder how long they will be able to hold on to those names.

I don't see anything wrong with chief. I don't think it's a derogatory name. Redskins is a different story.

A Chief is also a rank in a society. A position of power. How is that offensive? It's not.

Now dressing up as a native, wearing a head dress, dancing, chanting as an "Indian Chief"? I'd say that has the potential to be offensive.

Fun fact about H. Roe Bartle. He founded the tribe of Mic-O-Say. What native tribe is that you ask? Spoiler, it's not. It's a fake Indian Tribe Bartle started down at his Scout Camp so scouts could dress up, dance around fires in full "Indian Attire", and achieve ranks in the tribe. What I find interesting, in today's day and age, how is that not racist? Then subjected to cancel culture?

What in the HELL is going on over there in Missouri!? FAKE tribes!? If that was happening here in Ampipe, our community would run it out faster than Coach Nickerson!!

I know the story of the mayor but all marketing leads towards the assumed Chiefs name meaning. Dont get me wrong, I am a Native that thinks all this politically correctness is total crap. But they will eventually come after them.

"They" have been "coming after them" for years. I remember seeing Native American protesters at Chiefs games 30 years ago.

EVERYTHING in today's culture is offensive, racist, and subject to cancel culture. Once you grasp that, it's all just window dressing.

A grown a$$ed man that leads boy scout troops and dresses up in costume and dances around fires? Sounds COMPLETELY normal to me.

Best thing to do is just not go to town. Stay out in the woods with your goat chained up to his cinder block, watch YouTube videos about how to build an underground bunker. Green beans and guns. That's what's going to get you through this.

Yeah. Nobody wants to get shot. I guess it’s depending on if you are in the democratic cities or not. I mean children are being shot every day in Chicago. Chiraq as most call it. Good call.

I thought it was weird in the 8th grade! I only went to scout camp at Bartle once and that was more than enough. Call me old fashioned, but getting half naked, dressing up as an Indian, and dancing around fires just isn't something I wanna partake in.

Full disclosure, I was in Boy Scouts due to my parents forcing me to. Dad was an eagle scout, so was his dad, blah blah. I got my eagle scout as quickly as I could and got out in the 8th grade. Sports, girls, and video games then became my life. Sometimes academics. Lol

Shoot back! That's what you have that arsenal for! You didn't buy that cold hard steel just for the Facebook photo! Use it!

Nah, the left loves drone strikes and cross fire. Look at big cities and the wars they push for. Why is there’s always projection towards the right on this stuff. We might be getting to something here.

I remember being OBSESSED with it in elementary school because of the camping aspect. I went to one meeting I think when I was in 5th grade. They mentioned the ANNUAL camping trip. It was like someone screamed ANNUAL. The second I figured out camping was a once a year thing, I was out. Honestly, the values and activities are probably pretty darned good for today's kids. It's like anything else, a lot depends on the parents/leaders on the experience...But yeah, that whole half naked dancing thing should give just about anyone pause. Lol

The parents/leaders definitely impact the experience. Because my troop went camping at least once a month. There was the annual trip to summer camp but that was just for a week during June or July.

I can't deny, I did learn a lot valuable skills in the scouts and had some fun times. But I was forced by my parents and it would not have been my first pick of things to join.
