Private schools - let’s be honest

Commence countdown for collective head explosions ...

A good friend of mine was talking about a discussion he had had with a coach at the college level who also helped with some youth sports at different times. He said the coach brought up the point that some parents believe if you throw enough money at a personal trainer or pitching coach, etc for little Johnnie or Jody that they will end up being a stud. But parents need to learn there is no amount of money that can help a kid be good....you could spend $10,000 on club volleyball and play all over the Midwest, but if little Jody doesn’t have it she just doesn’t have it. She will of course have exposure but that’s about it. And that’s sad.....it’s not the kids with necessarily the talent that are being seen in the elite type comp teams, but whose parents will throw the most money at it.

Yes, to me it is dumb to spend a bunch of money prior to age 14-15. All a club can say honestly (unless they are charlatans) is that they can get your child ready to play 8th grade sports at their school.

Yes he thinks trinity should be added to the dynasty list now , after their first title !!

I've never seen such a big mouth poster droning about a one-off team before. A naive little puppy doesn't understand the pecking order...its like the noob on the pro wrestling circuit that finally gets to "go over," and thinks that its going to happen all the time. No, the Intercontinental Belt is not in the cards for you bro...you got over one time, and think your're on the way to a Hulk Hogan career. Now get back to the end of the line.

The pecking order for 2018 begins with Hayti, Blair Oaks, Trinity, Ladue, Vianney and CBC. Any schools OTHER than those 6 didn’t win State and aren’t King of their respective hills. If you want to brag about past seasons, then the stories are different. Those are the facts, homie, and they won’t change no matter how much you want them to. The cold reality is that your team wasn’t good enough to win it this year. Try harder. Excuses won’t help you.

And if trying harder isn't in the cards just do what the small private schools do. Recruit kids its darn near impossible to fail with.

This story has went cold. Is she playing h.s. Ball somewhere else?

I don’t think she is. An article came out this week about 3 high school girls that had been inadvertently sent stipend checks by USA Basketball this Summer for their participation in an International competition with college players. Simply being sent the checks wound up being a violation and jeopardized the H.S. girls’ amateur status (even though the checks were sent in error and the girls weren’t responsible). It appears that is why the Missouri kid is ineligible this season. MSHSAA and her former school can’t comment on the issue and she and her family are understandably mum about it. Her NCAA eligibility isn’t in jeopardy though.

Thanks for the update.

Just got on this thread and admit to only reading early and late posts. MSHSAA has a multiplier to enrollment at private schools that typically bumps them up a class. If there is an advantage some private schools have for sports its those near the state boundaries that can bring in athletes from bordering states. Having a Missouri state champ in individual sports that lives in Illionois or Kansas doesnt seem quite right..

The sad state of our inner city public schools has many looking for options for their kids. They should not be denied that. Iowa simply has open enrollment in public schools. You have to find your own transportation if you go outside, but many do it for both academic, arts, and athletic oppotunity. Private schools there do not have the multiplier.

That’s crazy.
I remember one HS football team many years back having to forfeit most of their wins because one kid won $20 in a golf tournament on the weekend.
Rules are rules, but sometimes common sense has to prevail.

Several years ago we had to vacate some soccer wins and then lose some kids because I guess they had played in some semi pro soccer league back when they were living in Mexico.

Yes, I am. Not all, but a very vocal few generally only question when it is an African American athlete at a higher end private school. I also thought it was an undercurrent of a good bit of the complaining about Trinity/Ritter.

They do follow the same rules. If the public schools in the neighborhoods in question offered a better option then this wouldn’t be an issue. Why penalize the private school for the public school’s failing?

So the private school reaches out selectively to people who can help promote their athletic teams. Same old story of exploiting the rules for the glorification of the good old private school.
