C6: CBC is a strong repeat favorite. Here in KC probably (what else is new) will come down to Rock and Blue Springs. Week 1 PH at LSW will be telling then the aforementioned play Week 2.

C5: KC Side likely comes down to Fort and Staley. StL side probably Vianney.

C4: NWMO is the Highway 92 trio plus Harrisonville. Lafayette will be waaay down. Helias Catholic needs to readjust to Hentges and the spread offense. Webb is Webb not sure about any other contenders this side of the state. StL could be Ladue again.

C3: Trinity Catholic moving up shakes this class up big time. Maryville would've been a heavy favorite otherwise. Again don't know SWMO so will let others comment there. Also watch Rulo and Chilli. Like Helias Catholic may take a couple of years to really gel, though.

C2: You listed two area teams I like in Lathrop and Lexington. Know Higg lost a lot but always a solid program. Statewide gee who else????? Give me an L give me an A.............

C1: Penney should dominate NWMO. Not sure about any of the others frankly.

Valle Catholic always puts out a solid team.

Maryville returns a lot of talent, (Thanks for the vote of confidence for my Hornets..time will tell)
I've heard good things about Lathrop. One coach I talked to that shall remain nameless thinks Lathrop is perhaps a Top 5 team with a lot of offense returning.
Hamilton will be good, but I expect them to be more grind it out and less quick strike
Brookfield MIGHT be a team to watch, they had 4 seniors last year but they have 15 this year. Opening game at Palmyra will show how good they are.

Not a StL guy of course but didn't FZ North's star QB graduate? BTW Webb and Ladue would meet in the semifinals. Would have (tiring out, sorry) to check the others will do so tomorrow.

Lathrop and Penney had a terrific game last year could happen again in 2018. KCI is between those two with Lawson in the rare position of sleeper. Perhaps Mowestdad has an East Buch preview?

Joplin will have to make a Gigantic leap to be included in that list

I'm on board with just about everybody on your list's.

C2- Blair Oaks jumps out. I think Monroe City has an outside chance but not sure they can complete at the highest level- top 4 spots. Lex will be better than last year. Lathrop has the tools. Higgy will win their district. Macon is good. Dont know anything about Ava. LN very solid. The Brotherhood is #1 till they lose.

C3- Trinity is explosive, and will be a tough out for Maryville. But the Spoofhounds ultimately beat them I think. Not sure Chilly is there but Coach Rulo is a stud- they will be good.

C4- Webb, Kearney, Harrisonville. Maybe Smithville- haven't "been there done that" yet so we'll see. PC- Maybe?

These are tougher on NWMO country boy. I don't get out much.

C5- Staley, such a great program there. Not sure about anybody else.

C6- CBC, Blue Springs, Rock. Probably in that order.

But Top, I just can't see Penny, I'm not sure they can recover/reload from losing Harper. East Buch does what they do and gives people fits. But I think it's probably Valley, Hati, Brentwood. Don't laugh but Dark Horse- Lablond, if they can stay healthy and keep kids out, are better than average C1 schools. And they have a Monster schedule.

Everything I’ve heard is East Buch is going to be good once again. The KCI is 4 deep this year in teams that can make noise, and 5 if what people are saying is true that Plattsburg will be good too. But East Buch is currently my favorite to win Class 1 District 7. KCI once again may get split up between 2 or 3 teams. It all starts in week 3, weeks 1 and 2 are measuring sticks then the fun starts in 3.

I agree on LeBlond though. Dropping to Class 1 will help them. Playing that MEC schedule they play you might as well lock them in to a top 4 seed in the district.

Plattsburg will start to get better. Not that they have been terrible- going to class 1 helped them out. Personal, they are not there yet, but they have decent kids coming up. Numbers game will be hard on them this year. Don't know alot about the coach, but a whole lot of experience. They will compete with the smaller schools in the KCI.

Is that Rock Bridge or Rockhurst? They meet tonight

Thanks! I still contend Penney is a strong program and will endure losing a single star athlete. Should know lots more when they play Lathrop. I actually go opposite..........I consider myself a very urbane (with the sharp attitude to match if you jerk my chain) guy who knows soooo little about the smaller classes so always appreciate the insight from those like you who know much more.

C4 looks, at the onset, pretty wide open and I wouldn't leave out the STL schools. HSFB over there is very, very good and the physical mismatch days i.e. KC having the O and D lines advantages are long gone. I am hedging my bets until I see a few games in person.

C5 been beating this drum since 2017 ended: watch Fort Osage. They have a third year starting QB (Ty Baker) who could win the Simone and lead them to the promised land ala Skylar Thompson.

C6 look out for Park Hill. If defense truly wins championships they may be destiny's 2018 darlings.

MUCH more to come especially given I, first time in six seasons, get to go out and witness games in person front to back this fall.

Since I'm a city slicker, I wills stick to Class 4 and above...and in no particular order, the top 10 will be:

Class 4
Cape Central, Hazlewood East, Grain Valley, Kearney, Smithville, West Plains, Webb City, Ladue, Carl Junction, Platte County

Class 5 Vianney, Staley, Fort, Fort Z, Battle, Park Hill South, Raytown, Carthage, Jackson, William Chrisman

Class 6 Blue Springs, CBC, Rockhurst, Lee's Summit North, LSW, Blue Springs South, Park Hill, Eureka, Pattonville

Hazelwood East moving down definitely peaks my interest on that side of the state in C4. Still waiting to see something about Grain Valley whose head coach, of course, needs no intro he is one of the Metro if not State's best. C5 thought Chrisman lost a lot but won't be able to tell from game 1 unless they pull off a major shocker. C6 would not include BS South and would include Kirkwood.

To me...Raytown is a definite. Their coach is the real deal, and been there before and done that. He has one of the top QBs in the city and they have the athletes...real fast dudes. They beat everyone pretty easily at the Liberty Jamboree, for what that is worth. His QB failed to do what he was told on the first play (throw a fade) and the Coach immediately benched him for the rest of their plays. They have big numbers out... Raytown and Raytown South could just about kick anybody's ass in the sprints. Now if they are molded, they are scary.

Ray South was one I forgot to mention. Could be a "any given night" spoiler in what is shaping up to be a pretty rugged Suburban Small Seven this year. Do agree if either/both of these schools find good, solid line play they could be very dangerous.

I think Fort will find out a lot about themselves tonight vs Ray South. Fort lost two very good kids to transfers during the offseason(all-state type players) but still have a lot of returning experience.

Where did the two players end up? Trinity? Bahaha

Okay...Raytown beats Blue Springs South
