It seems like these boards recently are all political, would love to see some ranking and talking about some football teams for this season or the spring or whenever

I agree but at this point I see it as an exercise in futility. I hope they get to play but there are a lot of practices going on that may be the only football the lads see this school year. Put me in the anti camp for spring football.

I agree @Mofan79!! Most of our predictions are “futile” every year. It’s just a fun way to kill some time, gotta stop worrying about the what if’s.

Pre-season is always tough, especially without any team camps in the summer to watch. Here’s my top 5 or 10 for each class: (I don’t know much outside of class 1-2)

Class 1 -
10. South Calloway
9. Lockwood (Heard Lasater is back at the helm?)
8. Windsor
7. Hayti
6. Mid-Buchanan
5. Marceline
4. Pierce City (graduated a lot, but still have some weapons)
3. Lincoln
2. Thayer (always tough)
1. RIP Valle, you will not be missed

Class 2 -
10. Monroe City
9. MV Liberty
8. Fair Grove
7. Clark County
6. Hallsville
5. Summit Christian
4. Maryville (largest class 2 in the land?)
3. Lathrop
2. Lamar (first year w/o Bailey, we’ll see)
1. Ava

Class 3 -
5. Trinity
4. Savannah
3. Cassville
2. Odessa
1. Blair Oaks

Class 4 -
5. Kearney
4. Helias
3. Hannibal
2. Ladue
1. Webb

Class 5 -
5. Chaminade
4. Glendale
3. Raytown
2. Carthage
1. Staley

Class 6 -
5. Marquette
4. Ray-Pec
3. Blue Springs South
2. Rockhurst
1. Desmet

I never shy away from football talk. Chillicothe Hornets opponants, my take
Marshall - QB Haug returns for senior year, most of Off and Def return
Kirksville - lost their QB, SE, couple other starters
Maryville - do I really need to say anything? lol they'll be good again Houchin returns at FB
Cameron - started a Soph QB that looked good until he got hurt in our game. Most of his surrounding cast returns
KC St Pius X - EXTREMELY young last year. one Sr on Offense, one on Defense. New coach replaces former long time head coach
St Joe Lafayette returns lot of skill players, must replace QB. They've been a good program for several years now. cant take them lightly
Savannah - New coach, graduated some very good skill players. have to see if next man up will be ready to continue their tradition. Drama in the off season with a push to change their team nick name and school logo
KC East.. first ever meeting between Chillicothe and East
St Joe Benton. I have felt this might be an improving program over the last couple of years. Will see if I had a feeling or just a back spasm. Graduated a few talented Seniors, but do return Dydel in the back field.
Chillicothe: Had a huge Senior Class last last year, will return a couple starters total. Third year under our new coach and new offense. Some good talent in the Sophomore class, but don't know if they are ready to make an impact on Varsity just yet. Time will tell.
There you have it some unbiased, cautious football discussion. :)

Who In class six would they replace?

With the Saint Louis and Kansas City metro public schools presumably bowing out and the new MSHSAA bylaw that each school cannot be less than half the size of the largest school in each Class, Class 6 should look something like this this year:

Class 6
---------
Rockhurst
St. Louis University
Joplin
Christian Brothers College
Rock Bridge
Kickapoo
Jefferson City
DeSmet
Hickman
St. Joseph Central
Nixa
Ozark
Waynesville
Chaminade College Preparatory
Vianney
Jackson
Springfield Central
Poplar Bluff
Battle
Carthage
Smith-Cotton
Republic
Branson
Parkview
Glendale

I usually don’t get too worked up about rankings, I normally who cares — but I sure wouldn’t have Glendale ranked ahead of Jackson.

Carthage put 64 in Glendale last year and Jackson took Carthage to OT. Jackson will be as good if not better than last year.

The idea that Glendale is in their class is laughable. You should, at a minimum, have to beat somebody outside of Springfield before you are considered a serious football team these days.

They were 0-6 against opponents outside the city last year. You’ll forgive me if I don’t find beating Kickapoo, Central, Hillcrest and Parkview impressive.

Odessa has some very solid athletes coming back. They have quite a few state champion caliber wrestlers on the team as well. Tough.
I got to watch them a few times last year. I think they would've challenged some of the mid tier 5A programs in KC last year. Here is an interview with their coach from a few days ago.

We won't know what Class each of the schools will be until September 18, so I am not sure how we can have rankings until then. If St. Louis and Kansas City schools don't play, there may not be a Class 6 this year.

Or maybe all the classes will have the same number of teams instead of babying the big schools

I don’t think they are babying the big schools I think it has more to do with letting the small schools be able to compete. At most there are 4-5 teams between class 4-5 that could make the jump to six and be competitive

Id rather go through a 32 bracket over a 64 especially if it was the smallest 32 in class 1

I’m not arguing that a 64 man bracket is easier than a 32 I’m just saying that first round would just be about pointless if you took the 32 biggest schools in class 5 and bumped them up, the disparity would be unbelievable

More disparate than a school with 100 kids against a school with 240? Or a private with '170' that pulls from a class 6 area?
