Here's the first media poll of the year. I always think it's interesting to compare the first and last polls of the year and see what's changed.

Probably the highest ranking Joplin's seen in awhile. I don't remember seeing Carthage at #2 since they were class 4 ranked just behind Webb City. I would have to look back but seems unusual to not see Webb as #1.

I thought I saw where Peirce City will Co-Op with a bigger school in their area?

St Mary’s at 5-6 ahead of 12-1 West Plains. ???

You can read a piece like that about every team in the state this week

The best thing about St Mary’s is they had excellent steak sandwiches in their concession stand, and gave up their entire bleachers to Webb when we went up there

They will maybe go 5-4

That's a opinion. Like the polls. We will see where everyone finishes. That record overall wont reflect team play with that schedule. Have you seen it?

That's cool. I have no idea, you ask why, i provided you with the info.
I do know they will be good at skill positions, however they are usually very soft on the line, which will be their downfall come districts or state playoffs.

Should the be ranked that high? I have no idea, rankings this early are dumb, especially with high school

Joplin shouldn’t be ranked ahead of Blue Springs or Lee’s Summit North
Not a rankings fan but totally agree. The 2019 versions of both of these schools will be as good as we've seen in KC in a number of years. Avoid major injuries and one of these two is headed to the title game mark it down. Would actually like to know how Rock rates #2? Also they got Rock Bridge right.............they will be another force to be reckoned with in a very UP Class 6 statewide.

Didn't WP graduate nearly everyone from last year's varsity?
YES. And the HC left for Arkansas. Overall, though, the voters did a far better than average job ranking Class 4 PRE SEASON. No doubt the ebb and flow of the season will change a lot of these.

St. Louis Area team ranked #1 in Classes 2-6. Should be a fun football season

Only 9 voters?
Is anybody picking up what I'm putting down?

They graduate their entire o-line and a few d lineman and their best LB.

Return 9-10 starters and a 3-year starter at RB and 4-year starter at QB.

One of the guys they return played both ways last year and two of the guys they graduated played both ways, so if you count that, they actually return right about half their starters, the line will be a big question though. They’re still very rich in skill positions.

I hate pre-season polls for high school because they are meaningless. Play three games and the picture gets clearer. If Webb starts off turbo clocking everyone, including someone pretty good...#1. Same with CBC. Got to see a few decent match ups.

I hate them at any time. Means nothing. Some schools may hang a banner though! 1019 pre-season #1... Or be like UCF and declare themselves unofficial champs then!

I knew Rackley and the RB returned, and no doubt those two are really, really good. But losing the two TE's the last two years and all of that O-line...just think they'll take a big step back. Losing Coach Ary is obviously a big loss too. Read an article where the new coach wants to play more up tempo and in the spread and throw it around a lot more. Rackley can wing it, but if he's running for his life on half the snaps it's going to take a toll. It'll be interesting to see how they replace the lost pieces. They've had such a tough identity under Ary, and really got some things done that way. Seemed like that was a style they really bought in to. I'm intrigued at how the changes will look.

Tidbit from C4 preseason poll...Three OC schools in the top 10 (Camdenton, WP, and Leb). And four from the Sub KC blue in the top 11 (Platte Co, Kearney, Smithville, and GV). 7 of the top 11 in two conferences. Just found that interesting.

The Suburban blue is very, very deep this year. Although I still suspect there is no middle class i.e. the top four listed in the poll will vie for the title and go unbeaten vs. the other three I do think we may see that gap close a bit the next couple of years. Of those four I still contend Grain Valley is the one to watch early and Platte County late. Any good the Pirates do this year is but a stepping stone to what should be an extremely loaded 2020 squad.

IF I am wrong and any of these four will drop below title contention I would look for that to be Smithville. Their returning D numbers are very low. Kearney needs to solve (this feels a lot like 2017 in that regard) the starting QB issue and fast............

If form were to hold I believe Webb City would visit Camdenton for a MO C4 quarterfinal..............given what happened last year and these two being the most storied middle-enrollment programs in the State's history a drive down for that one can easily be put in my MUST SEE category.

Stop in Wobbly Boot and grab some wings, fried pickles, and que beforehand.

They should just ask Jolene to rank everyone. No one else has near the knowledge of every roster, everyone’s health and every game plan.

Personally I checked, and everyone is undefeated and should be ranked #1.

I’ve been on the voting panel for the StLPoD before.
Heck, I didn’t have time to research some team across the state in some other class. Furthermore, I’d forget to send in my weekly vote 1/2 the time. Just had bigger priorities.

I wouldn’t take these things too seriously. For entertainment/ MoSports debate only.
MoSports debate is serious business.
