Bahahahahahahaha. It was a sham given to a buddy of a Trumpster. It was obvious to everyone except mosports Trumpsters.

Both sides suck. We should all be united in our disdain for the whole lot and start pushing to get independent/ third party people in control.

We are missing an opportunity to unite and demand better.

I've been to Puerto Rico three times. Wanna know why I take every opportunity to go back?
The people. I
I've never been around a friendlier, more accommodating, hospitable group of people in my life. They don't have a big tourism industry compared to a lot of Caribbean locations. The people I'm talking about are the ones who appear out of nowhere when I appear lost and they never want a tip; in fact locals wave it off. I've spent time in their homes and been driven around because I make an inquiry about an area. They never want ANYTHING other than to help people who want to know about their territory.
I want what's best for them, no matter who can provide it.
I've been there three times also and you are spot on about the people.

Duck thinks it's funny the poor people of PR will have to wait longer for electricity now.

Shame
The real question is WHY hasn't FEMA found this, or any other companies, to get down there and get this going LONG before now? Why did the Governor there have to advertise for help like this for HIS territory?

It appears there was a company down there working to restore power, but since that company was a supporter of Trump, the libs got their contract negated.

PR can suck eggs according to you libs, unless they hire the PC firm of the liberals choice.

I believe the local PR electric authority hired them.

The real questions should be how the heck that firm ended up with that contract from the the PR government utility.

I wonder who might have hooked them up?

didn't the governor say he wanted the contract cancelled as soon as critical work had been completed??

So Whitefish mans up to get critical work completed then they get the contract cancelled

The governor put out the word that he wanted anybody that would come down and get things done. He ended up with a small company that had a big connection to at least one of our present government officials.

Name an electric company that doesn't have connections to government officials.

No one else wanted to go! PR was glad to have these guys and these guys were glad to have the opportunity. What a scam!!!!!!

This is not exactly a large electric company and the connections were on a pretty high level from what I've heard. Yeah I know everything I hear is just fake news.

How can you possibly draw these conclusions from the publicly available data?

From what I read,,no other company, because of PR's financial situation was willing to go down there without millions of dollars of up front money to guarantee payment.

Whitefish had cash in the bank to finance the work.

The Army Corps of Engineers is actually responsible for rebuilding the power grid on the island. They are still messing around with bid specs for subcontractors and done't have a single crew working down there after 6 weeks

So now the Puerto Rican Power Authority cancels Whitefish contract, and must pay Whitefish expenses to ship trucks, cranes, equipment and heavy lift helicopters back to the USA.

doesn't make much sense to remove crews that are on the ground working

I'm not going to pretend I understand it all or have insight into how repairing a power grid works, but I note that PRERA participates in the utility mutual aid programs where they lend each other work crews when emergencies happen. A lot of questions have been raised about why they didn't call that in first before signing a contract with a nobody firm. The utilities in Florida used the mutual aid pacts.

The criticism that "no one else would bid on it" seems misaligned with the fact that they had lots of resources available to them from other large utilities who are proven entities.

They were also not the only bidder according to this reporting.

The whole thing raises a lot of questions about the process. It doesn't definitively seem to be right or wrong.

Like the article said, the other company to actually present a proposal wanted 20 MIllion dollars up front before they would do anything ( Utility is 9 Billion in debt)

Article also said PR couldn't pay the fees required for other utilities from mainland to come help. Its not like where trained crew from Nebraska can hop in a utility truck with a credit card and be working in Houston the next day anyway. The logistics of getting stuff to the island is a nightmare

people in PR will be sitting in the dark 6 months from now

Where did this tiny company come up with all this stuff like a heavy lift helicopter?

Companies that do work like this can't have hundreds of employees and equipment just sitting waiting for a job. They pick up the phone and within a matter of hours can have subcontractors hired and equipment leased and on the move.

Now PR Power has to pay them to ship the much needed equipment back to the USA

I haven't heard any explanation as to why PR had to take this on themselves to get people down there. Why didn't FEMA get people down there weeks ago? Nobody said it was easy to do but those folks are U.S. citizens and should get the same treatment as Texas or Florida.

I think the answer might be bad leadership.
