I was expecting (hoping) for the Smithville v. Grain Valley game to be a bit closer. Just reading the short articles it is difficult to tell if GV got anything at all rolling offensively. Getting blanked had to sting.

The PC defense is susceptible so maybe PC at GV has a chance to be a nice match-up.

Curious to hear what others think.

Looking at C4 D7 - will be interesting to see who will come out of that on-top. It could be GV's for the taking if they can get rolling.

I was at the game Friday. While I don't want to take away from Smithville's dominating performance, Grain Valley had one of those "can't do anything right" games. They had multiple fumbles, lost several good gains to being called back for penalty (including a touchdown), and had multiple plays where the qb and the rest of the offense weren't on the same page (5+). Grain Valley wasn't prepared and Smithville was.

I know nothing about PC, but if GV can get back to playing mostly mistake free it should be more interesting than last week against Smithville.

The Box score shows 2 turnovers for GV and 1 for Smithville. But the total yards show domnation: Smithville 620 GV 221. Wait til they face Platte County. It will be the same story.

GV had 2 fumbles lost, but they had at least 2 more that weren't lost but killed drives as a result of yards lost. They also had an interception deep in Smithville territory They also killed drives with penalties that put them in long yardage situation. So, if they play the same way then, yes, they will lose big. You think PC will dominate even if GV plays well?

Yeah.. I've seen PC and Smithville. PC has a much better Offense. If they gave up 600 yards to Smithville, they will give up 700 to PC. Like General Patton said, Platte County will go through them "like crap through a goose; like sh*t through a tin horn!"

It's building to the Smithville vs PC (Hwy 92, Round 2: Ding, Ding, Ding---Let's Get Ready to Rumble) game on 9/28. Common opponents by then of Grain Valley and Ray South could be telling.

Record wise Highway 92 is at it again in 2018 with only one non head-to-head loss among the four teams (PC, Smithville, KTown and Excelsior) and that was the Dogs at C5 defending champ and current #1 Staley. I "think" PC will go no worse than 7-2 in the regular season, same for Smithville and Kearney and the obvious ? is Excelsior who has lets-just-say not played the strongest non-league slate to date. Watch Week 9 when Smithville comes to Kearney. That could be very playoff-like and for home field advantage in the 92 Highway top heavy C4 District 8.

Offensively Grain Valley doesn't seem too dangerous. The PC offense is a little better. Both teams defenses struggle against the run.
This is a tough call but because PC has been there recently, I have to lean toward a PC victory.
I have a lot more opinions than I wrote, but PC 35-14. GV messes up too much.

Is it possible that Ex Springs turns in a perfect 9-0 and does not receive the #1 ranking C4, D8 over PC, KMO or Smithville if one of those three is 8-1? I'm hopeful the MSHSAA ranking process weighs strength of schedule in a way where that is unlikely. I really enjoy seeing teams have great records/season - that's great for the kids but I do have my loyalties. I also hate to see an over-ranked team receive home field #1when it's highly likely they aren't #1 caliber.

Excelsior will finish mid-pack in the MRVC West and won't nearly go 9-0. The team in that district to watch for a record of this type is Lafayette. IF they get by Savannah this Friday they should easily be 8-0 going into the regular season closer at Maryville.
