Plandemic... thoughts?

She believes the coronavirus comes from a bad flu vaccine, which makes no sense. She's in the anti-vaccine deep end. She is someone with a good background who became an evidence-denying lunatic.

There's a lot of people asking fair questions about lockdowns, etc. and their efficacy - admittedly, I am moving more towards reopening faster (but you gotta wear masks and take basic precautions.) They are being hurt by people pushing people like her.

If you are under 60 and don’t have any underlying health issues, masks are not needed. I’m sorry but they just aren’t.

NM, you’re a numbers guy. You can see that the data speaks for itself.

45 not 60. Statistically speaking. As you know, there are exceptions. Better to shop with a mask than not.

You're thinking about this is backwards. The masks aren't for you. They are for other people. You can't have me walking in the same grocery store as old people if I'm not wearing a mask. There are too many asymptomatic people out there to have it be any other way right now.

It's also an admission that people have limits to the amount they will restrict contact with others; if you can get everyone to mask up in public, that limits the amount of intrafamily transmission that is occurring at home.

IMO, the mask thing is low hanging fruit (it's cheap and reasonably effective), and it really should be mandatory at places that senior citizens have to or really want to go like the store, CVS, or a church

If you want things to be open, you have to be willing to accept modifications in behavior. Saying "I don't need to do this" is really your way of saying you can't trust me to act like the world has changed, therefore you have to keep the barber shop, clothing stores, etc. closed.

The government's job is to protect all of us, not just you. It can ask you to make reasonable accommodations on that basis. And it should support private businesses that wish to implement such a mandate.

Stay inside then if you’re scared.
The government cannot make decisions on how a 35 year old wants to act in public. It has to make a much more comprehensive view than that.

And, IMO, you are understating the potential long-term implications of getting COVID for kids and younger adults. We don't know enough yet. The reports of things like declines in lung capacity are concerning. Between this and even a minute chance you become very sick, a rational 35 year old wants to not get COVID even if they aren't caring for elderly people

Humans are bad at evaluating unknowns that are low frequency events; not wearing a mask right now is a great example of that. We should want everyone to wear masks in public when they are indoors until we have better information on transmission and effects.
