Anybody out there especially in Hound Ville know if Smith was offered the Minnesota job? And did he take it?

I was told last night by someone who would know the scoop that he had been offered the job. He was working on both sides to see what he could get out of both schools (Moberly and the Minnesota school). He was supposed to have made a decision by last night.

Pat was not offered the job yesterday. He may have been offered today. Your characterization that "he's seeing what he can get from both sides" is not accurate. He has not asked for anything from Moberly that he hadn't disscussed prior to the Bemidjii opening. He will probably know today what he is going to do. As great a job as Moberly is it would be hard to pass up a head coaching job at a 4 year school that pays about 15 to 20k more per year. I know he'll get a bunch of crap about loyalty and such if he leaves but I don't know how many people on this board aren't looking to better themselves and especially their family position in life. Pat really loves it at Moberly so if he's making the decision I know it's a tough one.

How soon will anything be settled? If he goes, I wish him the best. His Greyhound teams have made the Raiders miserable the last three years (MACC has won five of seven against the black and gold on his watch), so I can't say I'll miss him a lot. he has to be doing something right. (no offense in 'Houndtown -- I'm a TRCC alum, after all).
That said, he's obviously doing something right to dominate TRCC, so he deserves a lot of credit and the two Coach of the Year awards he's won at MACC.

If he's offered the job he needs to move on, and do so quickly, so as not to throw the coaching situation further behind. It will be bad enuff with the delays in searching to fill his abandoned position, should it come to that (remember them hiring Mike Hayes?) and there is still the question of the players going or staying. Then add to that, he obviously isn't doing any more recruiting for Moberly, which puts the Hound program further behind. I'm all in favor of everyone bettering themselves, but the Ncaa/Njcaa needs to adopt rules stating that there is a certain time window in which these changes and searches can be made by universities, and beyond that, you just have to wait to next time the window is

Great points luvhoops. If it is in the best interest of his family he has to make the move. I would be greatly disappointed as a Hound fan though.

If all of this plays out Coach Bess could be the only returning full time coach on the sidelines next year. Smith may be gone, Barr is, didn't the state fair coach retire, and Gray has basically handed the team over to Tate. That is quite a bit of change in one year. Plus isn't this the year that we begin the best of 3 series with the winner going directly to hutch? It would be a good job for smith to take. If he accepts the job even for only 3 years it would be an extra $60,000 and a chance to move on to even bigger 4 year schools. It would be hard to pass up, but we will all wait and see.
