Carthage completely dominated the first 45 seconds scoring twice without letting ozark offense get the ball. Since then defense has looked a little week1ish. Ozark has maybe won the posession time battle without scoring much so far.

Does carthage not have a kicker? The low kicks have given ozark short fields on every posession except for the one fumble.

A few thoughts:
I said a few weeks ago Carthage has the best '23 class. Sophs all over the place and they are loaded.

Carthage lines have looked pretty bad. Carlton has been pressured more this game than all last season, I think. Really surprised even with the lack of a real warm up game.

The D-backs have been all over the field. Big change from early last season.

Carlton didn't do much running back stayed poised in the pocket much better than before and made a lot of solid passes. Int was not his fault.

My observations overall this could be another very good team once they clean up a few "week 1" things, which I suspect they'll do as the season progresses.

• The scheme didn't seem to hinge around Carlton making plays as much as it did last year. Or maybe it was him being pressured more than what I've seen before?
• Gall is phenomenal.
• 3 turnovers inside or near the 10yd line were frustrating to see. 4 turnovers total.
• Defense was pretty loose early and gave up a big TD play early but looked MUCH better as the game progressed. Ozark managed to hold the ball for a decent amount of the game but was having to navigate a ton of 3rd and 4th downs.
• The Carthage roster looked a bit thin to me - in the program Ozark appeared to have at least 50% more players although the sidelines looked about the same?

It's tough to guess how they'll finish up not knowing IF there will be a post-season, what classification they will be in or where others will fall. Also even in the COC there may be more tougher teams than in previous years. Looks like Joplin isn't going anywhere. CJ might be back and Nixa too.

Most of his pass attempts Friday would've ended in him running the last 2 years but it seems as if he has worked on staying patient in the pocket. I was impressed.

They are also 3 or 4 deep at RB but who knows if that'll be utilized to keep from wearing Gall out.
