Wow! that pretty much sucks. I was family get together outside of Farmington and got to sneak inside and check on the game a couple of times. I saw it when Lacky came out and they kept it tied at 1. Then I saw Carps HR, went back out and came back just after Piscotty's HR and I stayed in to see the top of the 8th go well. Got in the car to come home and had to listen while things completely unravelled. The Pirates have to be licking their chops for their series with the Cards knowing they still have a shot em. Next man up better git er done cause it's a bullpen start on Wednesday last I heard.Rosie coughs up 2 games to the lowly Brewers. Things get way too tight if Pirates win tonight. Go Cubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lyons was who I was talking about when I said bullpen start. Don't think they'll go very long with him even he's pitching well.I heard Lyons is going to get the start!
That would be a good idea. I count can't count very well tonight, I forgot the loss to the Cubs cut the Magic Number to 4.My suggestion is to win on Monday and Tuesday so it doesn't matter.
Game never should have come down to needing a save. When the Birds lose it is almost always RISP, RISP 2 or 9 yesterday I think. That was just a painful loss. Another good Lackey start and two big homeruns by Carl and Piscotty all wasted. A shame.
Checkout Rosie's numbers post ASB. Even with a lights out August, they are still UGLY. His July and September would cause concern for anyone.Wainwright for closer. Rosy is done.
Concern is one thing panic is another. I love Waino but he hasn't thrown a meaningful pitch since April. To want to turn the closer's role over to him is crazy. Rosie has had one of the best years ever for a Cardinal closer so I would hope we stick with him and start hitting with RISP. This is and has been our major problem for 2 years. ! for 14 yesterday.Checkout Rosie's numbers post ASB. Even with a lights out August, they are still UGLY. Oh...I'm not advocating for Waino as the closer. Just stating that Rosie's season really hasn't been all the spectacular. I get the saves and blown saves, but since the ASB he really hasn't been that great. But I think he's going to remain the closer. I'll just be damned nervous. Of course, if they can't scratch out a win vs. the Bucos it probably won't matter.Concern is one thing panic is another. I love Waino but he hasn't thrown a meaningful pitch since April. That's completely possible. I'd say, the way things have unfolded, they're the most surprising? Just hope the duct tape and bailing wire hold for another month or so!Worst 100 win team, ever.
I guess I should have put that in #bluefont. lol(If you listen to ESPN101)That's completely possible. I'd say, the way things have unfolded, they're the most surprising? Just hope the duct tape and bailing wire hold for another month or so!
No way I listen to that trash. I'm a 920 guy...I could tell the sarcasm. Just not my nature to sunshine pump. To think that one can't enjoy the ride, yet still have major concerns, is a tad sunshine pumperish to me.I guess I should have put that in #bluefont. lol(If you listen to ESPN101)
just remember Jeff Weaver started (and won!) a clinching WS game for the BirdsThat's completely possible. I'd say, the way things have unfolded, they're the most surprising? Just hope the duct tape and bailing wire hold for another month or so!

Don't. Talk. About. Weavs...I still get emotional. Man, I loved that dude. How he got it done that Fall was just unreal. And those flowing locks.just remember Jeff Weaver started (and won!) a clinching WS game for the Birds

I don't think that's the mood on here at all. I think most that are critical of the Birds at time completely understand this team has won because of great pitching. Now it looks like Lynn is falling apart, CMart is done, and Rosie's WHIP post ASB is around 1.5 (and that's with a lights out August). They've been winning one way, and at the very least, that way is showing cracks. Just hope there's enough cork to hold! Because this sure is fun!!!The idea that a 100 win team falls on 100 wins by accident is the theme I get from this board. It was a heck of a year. I doubt they win the WS. If they do, cherry on top. I don't think people will see the Cards as major choke artist or something for not winning the WS.
I scare myself when Weavs' name comes up. To say I had a tad of a bromance going with that dude would be an understatement. It's embarrassing. But I own it.You are starting to scare me.

Do you think the manager deserves any credit for helping lead a flawed team through all the adversity to the best record in the game? This is not a "normal" 100 win team. How many games have we scored 0 or 1 run through six with very few hits? The normal 100 win team is an offensive machine. If you have baseball knowledge, you know this is a flawed team that has battled through adversity. But flawed nonetheless.
No. Ok, maybe some credit. But I think the management team as a whole deserves more. Matheny is brutal in games. But I'm sure he's a clubhouse master, with as well as these guys get along and play together. And there's no question he's a competitor, and grinds out every game, which is admirable over the course of this long of a season. Lilliquist deserves much credit, as does MO, and Oquendo and the rest of the staff. But when people talk about Matheny being MOY, it's hard to believe watching him botch decisions the way he does. But that is, after all I suppose, a small piece of the managerial puzzle. It's just the most visible piece for most of us.Do you think the manager deserves any credit for helping lead a flawed team through all the adversity to the best record in the game?
I agree, to some extent. Here's a question for you...If he were to manage, say, the Brewers...Do you think the Brewers would be any better than a 90+ loss team?Baller you know there are many on here who think very little of what they call Mathenyging or something like that and if they don't win the World Series it will be his fault and if they win the World Series it will be because the team overcame his Mathenyigng or whatever. Bottom line, as his career continues and the teams succeeds year after year their complaining becomes less and less meaningful Go Birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorta reminds me of the Hansbrough days on the bball board. Those folks would get their panties all wadded up anytime somebody didn't anoint that dude the greatest thing since free internet stag films. You simpletons who get all bent out of shape because we don't glow over Matheny every damn day are watching checkers while the rest of us are watching chess.
WEA-VER! WEA-VER! WEA- VER!just remember Jeff Weaver started (and won!) a clinching WS game for the Birds
WEA-VER! WEA-VER! WEA- VER!
Yes I do! I am a big Matheny fan for many reasons, but the #1 reason is simply he gets his players to buy into his program and that is where success begins. The organization is the best in baseball from top to bottom and that plays into his success, but when he makes one of his goofy decisions that we all see he probably did 2 or more things that day that none of us see that help win the game that day.I agree, to some extent. Here's a question for you...If he were to manage, say, the Brewers...Do you think the Brewers would be any better than a 90+ loss team?
