Ohio State recruit Cooper withdraws from Trinity

https://www.stltoday.com/sports/hig...cle_41fb16b4-c9c0-11e9-8e49-8f9cfecdb35d.html

Don't see him being eligible this year at Pattonville...hearing he's headed to Ohio State at semester.

I guess it will depend upon the circumstances. Since Trinity is a private school, IF Cooper lives in the Pattonville district, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be eligible immediately if he’s leaving a private school and going to the public school who’s district he resides in...

BUT if he doesn’t live in the Pattonville district, then I agree. Obtaining eligibility is unlikely

Because he transferred solely for athletic reasons maybe???

I would think wanting to graduate at the semester so you can participate in spring football in college would fall into that category

But if he lives in the Pattonville district, legally, he can drop trinity and transfer there. He would be leaving a private school and going to his local public school. The district in which his family pays their taxes to.

I don’t have a clue

I believe that’s how it works. Assuming that his family didn’t “just move” to the Pattonville district. Or he isn’t living in another district and just attending Pattonville.

Your prior school has to grant you a release even if you are going from a private school to the public school in your district. Only way around this is ask for a hardship exemption. There was a court case last year because a kid who went private to public had to sit out his senior year.

Well that definitely changes things then. I guess it will come down to what Trinity decides to do then. It would be in their best interest to release the kid and not fight it. If they do fight it, it may tarnish their reputation with picking up kids in the St. Louis area, potentially. Who knows.

Trinity’s Administration will likely object to his immediate eligibility. Since the Summer transfer evaluation period has ended, the only option left is to meet in-person with MSHSAA’s appeals committee. The “solely for athletic purposes” section of MSHSAA’s rules (emphasis on SOLELY) applies to high school ... not to Ohio State (duh). There are other mitigating circumstances that could end up in his ineligibility, but it really depends on how ugly the archdiocese wants to get publicly.

The “appeals committee” of MSHSAA is as inconsistent as the organization itself. I know from personal experience hahaha

Yep. The administration for Lutheran St. Charles knee-capped a kid on his transfer because they claimed his Father’s injury and loss of income was actually just so he could play football for Elsberry HS. They check “no” on the box that asked if they thought he was transferring for athletic reasons, then typed a paragraph saying it WAS.

“We had a lot of reasons why we were pulling Hunter out. I didn't think in a million years we'd get denied,” Jason Grills said. “Doug Kuhlmann filled out the paper work. He checked the box 'no' but at the bottom of the paper he proceeded to say in a lengthy paragraph he had every reason to believe it was for athletic reasons.”

Don't think he is going to push to play at Pattonville. At this point, it is more about finishing school and getting ready to play at Ohio State. There are a lot of underlying issues at TC that are starting to come to the surface. I would expect to see more kids transfer out and I don't know how long they will stay a football power in the area.

Yep doing the same thing to Travion Ford now. LSC needs a refresher on what Christian values really mean.

Not to mention it would be the epitome of hypocrisy.

Trinity’s administration and the archdiocese aren’t concerned with hypocrisy. They’ll handle this issue the same way they’ve handled others and blow the whole situation up. Families will leave and Trinity will go back to being a football afterthought.

The way I understand it, you are immediately ineligible upon transf

Yeah, yeah, go on...

Mshsaa rejected a kid that transferred from Father Tolton to Rockbridge last year.

Jesus. It just gets worse and worse every year. You can transfer to the private school.. but not from the private back to public without repercussions. Wow

He should have just checked:

*Do not feel safe at school...

That gets immediate eligibility at private schools right?

One of the reasons some put to transfer to private school was it was unsafe at their current school. Harder to use that reason going from a private to public.

The problem is the schools that are bending the rules when it suits them are allowed to act like jilted lovers when a kid leaves.

This is on MSHSAA whose application of the rules is incoherent and inconsistent. It's on a system that gives administrators who will gladly go to bat for a kid when they are transferring in, the ability to influence eligibility when they leave.

And it's on parents and kids for moving around in the first place. If you transfer around, you might be eligible. You might not be. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Wasn't there two shootings recently at public school jamborees? I mean, at this point, it's not a stretch to think some schools are unsafe.

It’s not karma when the actions are made with the intention of scuttling the program. The new head of Trinity and several administrators are enthusiastic to wreck the football team. They don’t like that the school is now known as “a football school”. They’d rather Trinity go back to winning 3 games a year ... which may be what they end up getting.

Maybe they want Trinity to play by the same rules everyone else does??
