Anyone else notice a lot more 3 man official crews this season than in recent past? All we have heard lately is about the shortage of officials. If there is a shortage how are so many places able to get 3 people for games. Even seen several girl games with 3 man crews this year.

It seems like more leagues have gone to 3 man crews, mainly bigger schools. I think most, not all, smaller schools stil use 2 man crews, from what I have seen this year... But, I will say that the games I did in Arkansas earlier this week were small schools and they had 3 man crews. They were really bad, but there were 3 of them. LOL

Almost all of the games use three officials unless it's freshmen though there were some two official games in soccer this year.

I have mainly been to games in class 1, 2 and 3 this year and most of them had 3 man crews. I just do not remember seeing that in the past. I know most games in the SCA have been 2 man crews in the past. I am interested to see what happens in conference games.

Most of the associations the officials work with require a 3 man crew. It’s nearly impossible to hire officials if you don’t use one of the associations.

Idk, I must be around the wrong associations then. I have been around high school basketball in the Springfield and Rolla area association and the majority of games I have seen in the last 10 years has been with 2 man crews.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a 2 man crew at the varsity level. However I haven’t been to a small class game in a decade.

This year more games are going to the 3 man system at the varsity level…..the numbers on officials are elevating but for every boys game that is going on any given night there will be a girls game that only has 2 officials cause the boys game is faster

and more physical........usually :)

Not saying it can’t be physical and fast just saying it’s not the norm like the run and gun of boy’s basketball

Okay, but not buying they are as fast and physical as the boys.
Well it's obvious they can't be as physical/strong as boys but their not playing against boys, they can play just as rough and very fast. Find a Doniphan girls game sometime and see how they play, all of their games are streamed now like most places. Their games against Neelyville and East Carter in the Twin Rivers Tournament were absolutely fast and physical.

I thought it was required at the larger classes and then optional at the lower classes. I remember when the 3 man crew started it was in tournaments and not in regular season games. Rolla has had it for many years but the smaller schools in the area did not. We only use a 2 man crew for Freshmen and Junior High games.

All Varsity boys and girls games are 3 officials in the Jeff City area. If it is a JV/Varsity double header then it will be 3 officials. If it is Freshman and below then 2 officials unless freshmen are playing part of a triple header then it could be 2 or 3.
