I've heard it said since the election that the President was relieved to get a republican majority in both the Senate and the House so he can get some deals made without feeling so much pressure from the left. He's never running for office again and he would like to have a legacy of accomplishments that were passed in a bipartisan manor. Now he can possibly cut deals with republicans that he didn't feel he could do before to get things done that could not get done before. There are enough democrats that will vote for some form of immigration reform, tax reform and infrastructure that won't go as exactly as they would like but they will go along for a start and that would give Obama some things he really wants done. they can also do some tweaking to the ACA to make it better. I think if he signs off the pipeline deal that will get things going in the right direction with republicans and lot of dems. If Boehner can get his folks in line on ANYTHING other than repealing Obamacare we could see some good things happen for the the whole country.

I don't believe this. I don't think the potential for deals is really any higher because I don't think he thinks he can really work with the House.

R or D Senate he can work with I think, but he can't count on Boehner to deliver votes.

I think you are right monster mash/ Boehner has no control over his house. Let the obstruction continue.

It has made NO difference that he had a majority in the senate and as long as he did the left expected him to fight the good fight. Now he has an excuse to make deals. I'm with you on Boehner not handling his people and I said IF he could things might get done. There are bills laying around in both houses of congress that would pass if given the chance for a vote.

I still don't understand why we give that much power to any one person. The President has veto power of a bill that passes both houses but even that can be overridden. If the Speaker or the Senate Majority Leader don't want something to get a vote it just ain't gonna happen. No one should have that kind if power in our system.
