It's kind of sad to see the once best player in the game hang around to the point of being DFA'd. I'm not sure what the status of his 10 year personal services contract with the Angles will be. Will the Cards try to get him back in uniform to go out here? He probably wouldn't be any worse than Marp. Except Marp can kinda play the IF when needed. But can you have two of those guys on the same bench if you're really trying to win? Maybe they wait until the end of the year and sign him for a day just for nostalgia. But he might not be interested in that. I'd think he would go into the hall as a Bird. That's when he was a HOF player. Guess we'll see how big his grudge really is.

If there is any team that loves nostalgia, it’s the Cards. That being said there obviously isn’t a position for him, not sure he would want to be a pinch-hitter only at this point in his career (or if there is any interest even in that). I read something a while back that said there was speculation he was a couple years older than what he’s listed. Good grief his stats while he was here though, wow!

Surely the Angels didn’t just cut him without him having a plan. If they really did DFA him cold, that’s a bad look. No surprise with a guy like Arte Mareno, but still...I have to think this is just step one of an orchestrated move. He’s not a very good player anymore, but he’s better than a portion of guys collecting checks today. I think he’s an absolute shell of what he once was, but I’d rather have him on the roster than Marp. Or Justin Williams for that matter. And when ONeills babip comes back to Earth, probably him too. Lol. Basically the OF blows. Too bad The Mang can’t walk or run now.

He has let it be known that wants to play until he gets 700 HR's. He can only be a DH and maybe get that done. The Royals and the White Sox both have a manger that might try to bring him on board to go for that goal. I think he needs 33 more HR's to get there, how long will that take in his current condition?

I highly doubt that the Royals would be that team. They are a young rebuilding team. I can see Tony La Russa bringing on board with the White Sox.

He wants to play every day. The Angels decided they're ready to move on from that. They are releasing him to allow him a chance to find a place to play every day and to get him out of the clubhouse. Apparently he hasn't been happy with not playing. As Doug is saying this morning, unfortunately he's just not good enough to play every day anymore. Other than TLR I'm not sure who would agree to give him the PT he wants. It's going to be interesting to see where he might end up. It's too bad the end of so many good careers wind up being kind of ugly.

As poetic as it would be for him to return as a Cardinal and retire there, I don't know that I see that happening. I also would MUCH rather see him in the lineup than Marp as a PH or at 1B when Goldy needs a day. My guess would be the White Sox also where he can DH for La Russa.

The Royals might be young and "rebuilding", but they've got enough pitching to be competitive. And they've got a real need at DH. I could see it, I think. Wish he'd be willing to come off the bench. And MO and Dewitt would be willing to eat the Marp contract. I'd trade those two out in a second...and I was never a huge The Mang fanboy.

"enough pitching to be competitive..." I've not seen that yet ! I still say that La Russa gets him if anyone.

Going to where the paycheck is!
The Angles are still paying him. The Dodgers only have to pay a pro-rated minimum. He was cheap for anyone that wanted him. I wonder how many other teams offered him a spot. His beef is he wants to play a lot. The Dodgers current 1B can play other spots to spell other guys. He could get a couple days a week at 1B and PH the other days. It will be interesting to see if that's enough to keep him happy.
