This is the only active forum on the website so I thought I'd pose that question here.
Fall - Softball, Volleyball, Tennis, Golf, Cross Country
Spring- Soccer, Track

Tennis and Golf seem like they'd make more sense split up or both in the spring. Seems like boys and girls golf could easily be combined. Tennis probably would have a shortage of courts.

You cannot combine boys and girls golf. Small school/small towns would have significant trouble with space on their nine hole courses for practice alone. Let alone the fact that there are lots of coaches that coach both sports.
Personal opinion here, I think Volleyball would be an easy move. It’s an indoor sport that wouldn’t be affected by weather. Softball and baseball might compete for umpires, space and possibly coaches.

Small schools do softball in the Spring. These would be schools that are too small for track.

When I was in school girls and boys Golf was combined? We had just a nine hole course back then also.

Softball originally was moved to the fall because many smaller schools only had a baseball field so it made since to seperate so they could share the field at different times. However almost all smaller schools now have two fields and have moved from fall to Spring so not to hurt thier Volleyball program. Most larger schools have stayed in the fall I believe because of travel ball, because travel ball is big money and if you moved all Softball to Spring that would delay the start of travel ball season. Also some might opt to play travel over highschool. Travel ball also takes umpires so by delaying the start of travel ball I think that would help the umpire.

Depending on how long ago that was (no offense) wasn’t that in the boys season? Girls played when I was in HS (80s) but on the boys team. Now most schools have both. So separate competitions for boys and girls would simply be too much. Heck, I’d never be at school and neither would The kids...
Move volleyball, then club season would lead into school season. Easy peasy.

You know it could have been just the boys season, we never thought much of the girls being on it there was always just as many girls as boys or it seemed that way.

Softball has a spring season and a fall season, you choose which you want to compete in. I still think, eventually it will all be moved to the spring. More and more have moved that way over the past few years... as soon as one or two big schools go everyone will.

Or go like Iowa and have softball and baseball in the summer.

I agree with this. I wish Missouri would give a try. End spring sports 1st or 2nd weekend of May. Start softball and baseball practices the 2nd Monday of May and host state championships the weekend before 4th of July

Back in my day 20 years ago, track was a glorious time. Ratio went up for the track guys since baseball split the guys pool up and all the girls were in track lol.

Would you let out-going Seniors play? And what about out-going 8th graders?

FYI. Back in the 50s there were over 300 schools playing boys softball in the fall.

Besides Iowa summer season, I believe all the states surrounding MO play HS girls softball in the spring.

I hate the current format in softball of a fall championship and a spring championship. It automatically dilutes the competition and takes away from the prestige of winning state.
