With three Division I offers and as many as a dozen other
programs in pursuit Blue Springs senior cornerback
Bernard Thomas checks in at No. 11 in the Rivals.com Missouri Pre-Season Top
20.
Thomas is another talented reason why the Wildcats have super
high expectations for the 2010 football season and a legitimate goal of earning
the 2006 Show-Me Bowl title.
Thomas stands 5-foot-11 inches tall, weighs 172-pounds, and
has been timed at 4.43 in the 40-yard dash. The No. 28th ranked cornerback
nationally, Rivals.com ranks Thomas as a 3-Star recruit.
As a junior Thomas earned Suburban Big 7 all-conference as
well as all-metro honors. He completed the season with 1 interception and
21 tackles. His interception total might have been higher had opponents
not avoided throwing to his side of the field for most of the season.
Thomas currently holds offers from Arkansas, Kansas, and Tulsa
with other schools such as Colorado, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Minnesota,
Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin recruiting. Thomas will visit KU on
Thursday and recently visited with Shay Wildeboor of Jayhawkslant.com.
"Everything is going good," said Thomas on Wednesday
afternoon. "There really isn't anything new, but I am talking to Missouri a
little bit more. I'm planning to attend Arkansas's camp, a camp at Tennessee
(maybe) and then I'm going to camp at Kansas State on July 31.
"Coach
Mitchell is the
coach from Kansas that I'm in contact with the most," said Thomas. "He's done a
great job recruiting me and we've got a great relationship. When Coach Mitchell
and I last talked, he told me Coach Gill was going to get more involved with my
recruitment. He (Gill) really wants Darrian and I at Kansas, so Coach Mitchell
and Coach Gill are going to recruit us together.
"Kansas is at the top, man," he added. "I don't really have a top list, but they
are definitely up there. Coach Mitchell has told me if I come to Kansas, I'll
have the opportunity to play early. I will also be able to play with some of my
high school teammates, which would be cool. Yea, I love Kansas."
