Ok thanks. I can't see anything of this getting better in a few weeks but we'll see.Actually Terry, as of this moment it is listed as postponed until April 20.
This would be interesting since they have said all spring sports can't practice or play games. Are they going to allow basketball to continue practicing?Ok thanks. I can't see anything of this getting better in a few weeks but we'll see.
Strength of schedule didn't keep them from being ranked all year and as high as #2 I believe before their loss to Moberly in regular season play. Moberly gave them both of their losses this year and Moberly got the 16 seed in the tourney, if they ever get to play it.Did I hear right? Mineral Area College went 31-2 and #6 in NJCAA rankings, and did not receive an at-large bid?? Strength of schedule must have been the issue. I thought they played a decent schedule. Hard for jucos in Missouri to afford to fly all over the country. Anyone have any insights. I believe I saw a MAC freshman guard was All American.
Wasn't that the NCAA (not the juco group) that determined that? This would be interesting since they have said all spring sports can't practice or play games. Are they going to allow basketball to continue practicing?
Then they shouldn't have been in the poll all year!! They did beat Highland Illinois early in the season when they were a highly ranked team in the preseason poll, and beat them handily. After that they beat everybody put in front of them including Moberly once. You might recall they lost several players to injury or other reasons before the end of the season too, that was when they lost to Moberly by 25.Good lord, look at their schedule. Only top 25 they played were the Hounds and they were 1-2 against the Hounds. With one of those losses by 25 on a neutral court.
NCAA making the call for what? All I know is Juco baseball and softball teams are not allowed to play, at least for now.Wasn't that the NCAA (not the juco group) that determined that?
In looking at MAC’s schedule for this season they went to Vincennes for a jamboree on October 13, but did not play them in the regular season.Yeah sure makes the poll meaningless. MAC use to play Vincennes, don't know if the still do, and their conference/region is usually good with Three Rivers, SWIC, West Plains, State Fair, and Moberly. I know playing JVs from 4 yr schools hurts jucos in whatever points system they use if they do play JVs. It really doesn't seem fair that a 31-2 record and reaching #2 in polls, and you don't make the national tournament. With few exceptions, jucos don't have the budget to fly around the country for games. I heard last year that it cost Three Rivers women $20K for everything to go to the national tournament. Jucos have small budgets.
SWIC is not in our conference or region but they are usually pretty good and 3R and MAC always them and John A Logan. This year WP and State Fair were both way down, not the fault of the other region teams that have to play them. 3R came close to MAC once but didn't win. I assume a lot fo the problem is not just our region teams budget but other schools with good programs can't afford to travel as much as they used to. It costs a bunch of money fro the hosts to get good teams from out of state to come tournaments anymore.IYeah sure makes the poll meaningless. -Jamborees mean nothing. No John Logan on their schedule. Did play SWIC (17-15), SE Illinois (4-26), Kennedy King (12-19), Richard Daley (12-18) and someone called West Kentucky CTC twice and I cannot find anything about them. No Indian Hills (TRCC plays them), no SE Iowa who was ranked in top 25 when Hounds beat them in Burlington. Travel is an issue to play Florida, Texas or Utah teams but if they can go to Chicago they can go to Ottumwa and Burlington.
I do realize the jamboree means nothing in terms of record, etc. But if you’ve ever coached it means WAY more than “nothing.”-Jamborees mean nothing. No John Logan on their schedule. The women played everyone in the region 3 times this year with the home a home games counting for region record. I've heard the men will do that next year too but I don't know. The reason for doing it is raise the competition level and be able to fill a 30 games schedule. If some of the teams don't get better the competition level thang won't matter. Hopefully 3R, WP and SF can get back to there they have been in the past. Still better than playing more JV's and prep schools. Once again if they hold your schedule against you for the triune then they should hold it against you there poll all year too. How do you know if you're playing good competition next year or not when you have no idea what the teams on your schedule will have for talent or coaching next season?I think MAC has tried it both ways. Better schedule but lose more and not get in. Lesser schedule and win more but still not get in. I'm not sure what formula it would take for a MO team to get an at large bid. I'm not sure one ever has. I could be wrong.
I would rather see better teams than some of the JV and clubs they play. But they've always had a JV or two on the schedule. So I don't have a good answer. Bottom line is you just have to win your way in. Injuries and other hurt this team this year. They were shorthanded that last part of the season. The OT game against State Fair put them in a bad spot to play Moberly the next day in the finals. A day two to recover would have been beneficial but might not have mattered. Coach has a good team and would have been hard to beat no matter what.

They weren't all ranked in the top 10 all year and as high as #2. It's a joke!Agree ORB, not sure any of the 5 R16 teams as an at-large. Too many Florida, Texas and Kansas judos to put 2 out of 5 from Missouri.
I agree but they wouldn't have to be if the voters pass some attention to what's goin on. No to next season, I hope.Just shows rankings are meaningless.
