NFL 100, All Time List

Have any of you been following this list? Noticeable no names? You can definitely tell there isn't a single person under the age of 40 voting on this list.

I don’t agree with some of the omissions, but generally speaking a 60 year old football fan saw Bart Starr or Deacon Jones or Jack Lambert play and can compare them to players of recent eras. You young pups might see video highlights or read about players from the 60s and 70s. But that’s not the same.

People who say “If Johnny Unitas had played with today’s rules.........” are right. People look at Joe Namaths stats and have to think he was a horrible passer. But in those days defenses beat up the receivers all the way down the field and o-linemen couldn’t use their hands to protect the passer.

Just watch the 69 Super Bowl, and see Namath play, and you realize that guy could play in any era. He would have had a field day with today's rules with that quick cannon he had.

Including Allen Paige and not Carl Eller sticks out to me.

agreed. Page had a couple of good years but for his career, I thought he was very over rated.

being real, Warren sapp was a more dominant player than Page. Obviously Page is a higher quality human being.

It will be really interesting to see what QBs make the list... will be some questions, for sure

You know they will have an old timer in there because they have at all the other spots, so I predict either Otto Graham—10 championship game appearances in 10 seasons or Sammy Baugh—the dude once led the league in passing, interceptions on defense and punting average IN THE SAME SEASON.

Johnny Unitas revolutionized the game and has to be in there.

Montana and Brady won the Super Bowls. They are in.

Brees is the most under rated QB in my opinion and probably won’t make it. They probably will put a hold on Rodgers for now and that means Favre won’t be on there either.

I would guess Elway and Manning are in.
That leaves a bunch of other damn good QBs on the outside.

Mike Singletary and Derrick Thomas I thought should have been on it. There were no running backs that played in the 21st century - either Faulk or Tomlinson should have made it...

To me Faulk, Tomlinson and Thurman Thomas are definitely top 10 backs in nfl history. Top 6? I don’t know. It does support Kenny’s premise about ancient people coming up with this list.

Unpopular opinion: Ditka is an over rated TE. Jackie Smith was a better player. There were other better TEs, Ditka’s legend grew after he became a coach and more famous.

So true... Go back and look at film footage of Jack Tatum, George Atkinson, and the Raider "Soul Patrol" secondary. It was a different game back then.

The five tight ends that were named (Ditka, Mackey, Winslow, gronkowski, Gonzalez) are the ones I would have picked. Next would have been sharpe, Gates and Smith.

I don’t agree Ditka was overrated. Rookie of the year and multiple year all-pro. He had a pretty good legend going when he was playing. And if you followed SNL you know he could’ve single handedly beaten most Super Bowl teams...

Casper was a beast.

I played softball in the Kansas State championships (men’s slow pitch) against Dave Casper. Cool dude who could freak squash a ball..
Kelce was just interviewed and talked about being put in there with Ditka. He said he understands today’s game is much different than Ditkas was. Ditka has the record for most yards in his first three years. Kelce in first four years. Let’s remember though Kelce missed his first year due to injury or he would have Ditka beat.

I think they are naming 10 receivers. Not sure why they didn’t name 10 RBs.

obviously Rice is #1 and everyone else fights for the 2 hole.

Bob Hayes was super fast but not really a route runner, Michael Irvin was a better receiver. Warfield and Taylor were Good players but not spectacular athletes. They don’t compare to Moss and Owens. There have been numerous receivers with more talent in the past 20 years. Including 2 Rams.

Ok, here’s my picks for WR’s
1. RICE

Old guys - Hutson, Fears, Berry
Not quite as old - Biletnikoff
Semi-modern - Moss, Irvin, Owens, Johnson
Still playing - Fitzgerald

Just to play devils advocate here. Rice did have two HOF QBs throwing to him.

Our list is much the same atleast for the guys I saw play. Although I’d put Carter/Harrison in over Irvin.

Tim Brown
Andre Reed
Calvin Johnson - as dominant a receiver as has ever played the game.

I know they aren’t top 100 material but I used to love watching Otis Taylor of the Chiefs, Wes Chandler of the Chargers, Andre Reed, Hines Ward, John Taylor, and a lot more.

I was a Bert Jones and Dan Fouts fan.
I always liked the big, tough QBs.

I hated anyone from the Raiders, Dallas, Houston Oilers or Miami.

I missed on Biletnikoff, Irvin, Fears, Owens and Johnson. Those five were replaced by Marvin Harrison, largent, Crazy Legs Hirsh, alworth and Paul warfield. I’d still take Biletnikoff over the two from his era... fact check - I looked back at stats - alworth and warfield were more deserving than Biletnikoff
