Tough to believe that the Big 8, with two teams in the State Championship they do not even get 1 player on the "All-Ozarks" Team....

I don't think they typically go this far into SWMO. Lamar and others in this area rarely get acknowledgement from the Springfield media until it gets a little later in the season and those area schools are out.

The Snooze Loser provides coverage and accolades to those demographic areas where they have the most subscribers...it's that simple. They don't sell many of their newspapers in the Big 8 towns. In fact, Monett and Cassville (12,000 citizens combined) have better sports reporting, more publications awards, and far better coverage than the Snooze Loser of Springfield (167,000 citizens). I once sent the Snooze Loser sports writer (at the time - they change them out so fast) an email asking why the lack of coverage of surrounding schools to which they replied the above demographic reasoning. So, I added one more to support their dire market forecasting...I canceled my subscription. Haven't missed it one bit.

It wasnt just the Big 8 that was left out... it was an interesting list for sure.

It's about appealing to their cliental and selling subs. "Springfield" is the operative term in the heading for their selections. Good coverage of SPS teams. Something for the 4-6 teams in the area to hang there hats on I guess. I like how they refer to the selection process as "asked numerous coaches, factored in season statistics, and their value to their team" as the criteria (pretty arbitrary). Not much love for those down here in the chat piles or out in the boonies except Joplin did have multiple kids. Favorite omission that makes no sense = Weston kid at CJ. He should have at least been a LB selection

They don't consider WC and Lamar as being in "Oz". (Dorothy and Toto flew completely over SWM before landing in Munchkinland)

At one time it was a good paper. They use to cover the outer towns. When I was down there in the late 90s and 2000s they had a good paper and pretty good sports section. Now with them having to compete with people getting their news from the internet they have cut way back. This year at state football their paper was terrible. Friday and Saturday was terrible, Sundays paper was alright but most of that was adds and house adds. I would say it is worse than the st joe news press, if that is saying much. That is another paper that is on the skids.

SJNP ownership is more worried about the 3 TV stations its started in the last couple years than the print edition.

Went to get a Springfield paper to enjoy over breakfast Friday of the state games last year and there was NOTHING in that paper about the games being at Plaster. It was like it wasn't happening. I know they are likely frustrated when the schools more immediate to Springfield don't play for titles but I was still shocked ... That's a money maker ... Marketing anyone???

Joplin Globe and Monett Times are my go to for news in SWMo high school sports.

If the Springfield wants this Market you have to give people in the area a reason to want a subscription, cover local sports is the best reason around people like to read about their schools and local sports. Quit covering it and watch your base fall. Ozone is also becoming a joke, their game of the weeks make me go really.

OR just enjoy the witty banter!

Listen, I get that the SPF N-L has just one sports reporter.
Out of his last 200 tweets, three (3) have been high school sports related.

In his Thanksgiving Day edition, he printed the "Final Missouri Prep Football Ranking," prior to the state championships.

It's hard to know when the season ends when you don't cover the games.
