Braymer C-4 is very excited to announce that we will be joining the Central River Conference (CRC) for 8-man football beginning next season. In some ways, this is a return "home" to our former conference that Braymer spent nearly six decades in, ending in 2008 when the original conference folded. Several years ago, the CRC was reinstated as an 8-man football conference. Due to the ever-changing landscape of 8-man football (new schools entering that classification), we will now have the opportunity to schedule and compete in a conference with area and neighboring schools, thus decreasing average round-trip travel throughout the football season. The new-look CRC football conference will consist of two divisions and will feature both divisional play and cross-over games.

The following are the initial CRC divisions for the 2020 season:

CLAA DIvision--Norborne/HC, Braymer, Keytesville, Chilhowee, North Shelby, Northwest-Hughesville

I-70 Division--Concordia, Orrick, Santa Fe, St. Paul's, Sweet Springs.

Each division will crown a champion and details are being worked out for crowning an overall conference champion, along with selections of all-conference and divisional honors.

Braymer's varsity football schedule for 2020 is as follows:

8/21 Jamboree at Braymer
8/28 @ NW-Hughesville
9/4 HOME vs ST. PAUL
9/11 @ Keytesville
9/18 @ Orrick
9/25 @ Norborne/Hardin-Central
10/2 HOMECOMING vs CHILHOWEE
10/9 HOME vs CONCORDIA
10/16 @ Santa Fe
10/23 HOME vs NORTH SHELBY

Other details are being worked out and we will release more information as it becomes official.

Here are the distances (in miles) they currently have between schools in the GRC West:
Pattonsburg 51
SJCS 65
King City 70
Albany 73
Stanberry 82
North Andrew 86
Worth County 97

Here is what they would have if they joined the CLAA:
Southwest Livingston 12
Breckenridge 13
Hardin-Central 24
Norborne 27
Tina-Avalon 27
Hale 35
Bosworth 38 (co-ops with Hale)
Northwestern 53
Brunswick 55
Keytesville 81

It is much closer geographically. I think Football and Boys Basketball will be more competitive. Girls Basketball has actually been more competitive in the GRC. They have also done slightly better in Softball vs. CLAA.

In GRC games:
Football: 1-26 in conference games since 2016
Boys Basketball: 6-15 in division games since 16-17
Girls Basketball: 10-11 in division games since 16-17
Softball: 12-6 in division games since 2017

vs. CLAA
Boys Basketball: 17-5 since 16-17
Girls Basketball: 5-14 since 16-17
Softball: 7-2 since 2017

Schyler would be a Heck of a drive those other schools would be iffy
I think the new school would need to be an existing 8-man football school.

For 8-man, Schuyler is going to have long drives anyway. For other sports, if they joined, they would probably move Maysville to the west and have Schuyler in the East, so it wouldn't be as long of a drive to those schools. However, I think that Schuyler would be a long-shot if other schools near GRC West schools apply.

LeBlond is the smallest school in the MEC and their enrollment is almost half what it was 10 years ago. It is going to be difficult to compete going forward. With them going to 8-man in football, they would be a natural fit in the GRC West. They tried to join the GRC in 1990 before they joined the MEC.

Stewartsville is closer geographically to the GRC West schools than the 275 schools. There is also a possibility of co-oping in more sports with Osborn next year. They currently co-op in football, baseball and softball. Due to low numbers, they have been discussing co-oping in boys basketball.

DeKalb is another school that could be a possibility, but the geographic differences between GRC West and 275 are not as much for them as they are for Stewartsville.

Platte Valley is another possibility, but a longshot. They are close to a few GRC West schools, but they also are in Nodaway County and have established rivalries with other 275 schools.

My early guess is that it will be either LeBlond or Stewartsville. Note that this is pure speculation and I have no inside knowledge to support any of this.

I doubt Leblond bit never know. I would doubt the others also but there isn't a lot to choose from

That leaves no one, which is one option. However, I think the GRC will want to stay at 16 especially for basketball and the GRC Showcase. I don't think a GRC East team will want to give up a game due to an odd number of teams in the conference.

I am not sure what LeBlond or Stewartsville are planning to do, but I have been around both programs for a while. It would not surprise me either way if both and/or neither applied for admission to the GRC.

Do you think the GRC might invite one of them (my preference would be LeBlond) to join?

I don't know who they will invite, but I think they will want to stay at 16. First, I am pretty sure there will be at least one school that is likely to apply. It may be one of the schools that I listed above or there could be another one that I am not thinking of. Once those schools apply, it will be up to the other 15 schools as to who they ultimately invite, but I don't think they will extend an invitation to any school that does not show legitimate interest.

Here is my ranking in order of the likelihood that they join:
1. LeBlond
2. Stewartsville (possibly with an Osborn co-op)
3. Platte Valley
4. DeKalb
5. Schuyler County

And the final answer is ... None of the above. North Harrison is the newest member of the GRC.
