Who did you watch that was surprising or great matches? Looks like some good Gold bracket 1st round and 2nd round matches.

Watched lots of games. Was very impressed with New Haven, they're a very solid team. I think their offense is stronger than their defense. Watched them play a good three-set match with Bismarck and Jackson. Bismarck has about two hitters who carry the team. Jackson was much better than I thought, but they really need to mix up their offense. I think I counted two times during the three-set game when they set their middles, as about 99 percent of the time they set to the outside hitters, but they're overall pretty solid. Was very surprised that Lesterville beat Farmington, as Farmington didn't really impress me. Lesterville sets their libero about 75 percent of the time. She's a good little player.

Winona looked more well rounded than I have seen them in the past when they had Rachel Holthaus. Didn't get to watch the championship game between New Haven and Notre Dame, though. Watched Leopold play many games and they are definitely having a down year. That was most surprising to me that Leopold went to the Silver Bracket and Malden made it to the Gold Bracket. I'll be surprised if they make it out of districts. They're very young and have a pretty decent little freshman who's the best player on the team, give her time and she will develop into college potential. I'll give Malden credit, they're very scrappy and they sure do hustle.

Saxony Lutheran looked strong. I think they could have went farther had one of their better players not gotten injured. They played Winona really close but then just totally collapsed to Farmington in a consolation quarterfinal. I also heard good things about Bloomfield. Bloomfield has a cakewalk of a district with their only competition being Woodland, whereas Saxony has no chance of winning districts since they're in the district with St. Pius X. Arcadia Valley and Jefferson are also in Saxony's district (C2D3 is brutal).

Another big shock to me was that Calvary Lutheran beat Poplar Bluff in pool play. I watched Calvary play and they looked like a junior varsity team, so how they beat Poplar Bluff boggles my mind. Not taking anything away from Calvary, as they did win the Silver Bracket, but that goes back to my earlier assertion that this tournament is consistently getting weaker and weaker by the year. Allegedly, there's going to be a "shake-up" in the tournament format for next year's tournament, so we'll see what that brings.

How did Calvary go undefeated in Pool and only advance to the Silver Bracket? I am not sure how the tournament is set up. I was looking for info on it.

I would love to know what the shake up will be next year. Calvary was in a pool with I think ND. That would be why they didn't make Gold.

This surprised me too when I initially saw it. Calvary was in a pool with Notre Dame, who also finished 6-0 in pool play. The tournament is set up to where you don't play the teams in your pool; rather, you play all three teams in a corresponding pool (e.g. Notre Dame and Calvary were in Pool N, which meant they played the three teams in Pool M, which were Poplar Bluff, Oran and Kennett). To further complicate things, Poplar Bluff finished 2-4 in pool play and went to the Gold Bracket. In the event of a tie in sets, it goes to points.

ND beat PB 25-18, 25-19 (+13)
ND beat Kennett 25-5, 25-9 (+36)
ND beat Oran 25-13, 25-14 (+23) = +72

Calvary beat PB 25-21, 25-21 (+8)
Calvary beat Kennett 25-5, 25-17 (+28)
Calvary beat Oran 25-9, 25-10 (+31) = +67

So Notre Dame beat Calvary by five points to advance to Gold. Hope that explains this a little bit for you.

Tournament going to have any open spots next year and do we know the date of next years already?

They are going to break it into a Red and Black division. Teams that normally make Gold will be in 1 division while the some Silver and Bronze teams will be in another division. This will help the teams play similar competition. Go and email them if you know anyone wanting in. I heard they were expanding 12 more teams next year.

I also heard a reason why some teams are leaving is because of the high admission prices. It was $9 on Saturday! That's pretty ridiculous. Not sure if that's the tournament's doing or SEMO's fault, but either way, it reduces fan base turnout, especially for a lot of those Bootheel teams who come from impoverished areas.

I like the idea of two divisions, but I think the teams that have left won't be coming back anytime soon.

I think splitting them this way it shouldn't matter the teams left coming back. The new format would allow the best teams to play the best teams.

Does anyone know who to contact about getting in the tournament? Email or phone number please if you know.

I am talking about the SEMO tournament and who to contact about getting into the tournament for next year.
