I was pretty surprised to see that St. Pius X had moved up to Class 3 as well since they had made three consecutive appearances at the Final Four in Class 2, including a state title during the 2011-2012 season. The Lady Lancers have a new coach this season as well, so it's going to be an entirely different ballgame for St. Pius X. I'm not sure how Park Hills Central is, having not watched them play in a few years, but they did manage to squeak by Leopold in the SEMO Classics this past season and they took second in the loaded Perryville Tournament. I've heard a lot about Windsor of Imperial; I sure would like to watch them sometime.
Bloomfield moving up to Class 2 again surprised me as well. They only spent two seasons in Class 1 where they lost handily to two powerful Bernie squads in the Class 1 District 2 title both times (and they were almost upset by Richland, yes, Richland, a team that had only won two games all season long) in a quarterfinal last season. Saxony Lutheran is the favorite in C2D2, and Woodland is the sleeper team in that district, IMO.
I was also surprised to see that Eminence and Winona are now in separate districts. That is a good thing, I think, because they are undoubtedly always two of the best teams in Class 1 that could easily defeat all the other teams that advance to State in Class 1 like Santa Fe, Osceola, etc., although they would have a harder time getting past the Southeast sectional schools like Bernie and Leopold, I'd think. Either way, with Rachel Holthaus leading the way, there's no Class 1 team in the state that can defeat Winona again this season.
