Home of the Cubs!!
This is a pretty big game this week. Does Seneca bounce back at home and hand the Neers their first loss of the season.
Can the Neers beat Seneca on the road to stay undefeated and prove they are for real?
Having seen both teams play I just believe Seneca is just better, however the Neers have a way of stepping it up and playing big in these types of games so would not be surprised if they win and possible big.

At the time I saw them play, Mt Vernon was quite a bit better. But things have changed a little since then. Seneca is healthier and are, no doubt, playing better. Should be a really good game.

Mt.Vernon does seem to step up in big games. You watch them and they don’t look overly talented but you look up at the end of the game and they have beat you and your like how the heck did that happen.

Yeah I totally agree, the last few years in the playoffs I have watched them dispatch some really talented teams. I guess we need to nickname Tommy "Big game Cox".

I personally think Seneca will win this game.
Mt. Vernon's wins are over Monett, Nevada, Marshfield, Reeds Spring, Aurora and Rogersville.
Monett has the best line out of all of those teams (just stating facts here) and Mt. Vernon got them on a last-second set of plays in Week One.
The Mountaineers have not faced a stiff test upfront since the Cubs and the Indians have a one-two punch with Mailes and Wilson. Although they did look pedestrian when Mailes got dinged in the second half against Monett.
I think it is a close game but the Indians win on a cold night.

Lost our starting MLB Friday night with a torn meniscus. Starting a sophomore and junior in his place. If Mailes can keep from getting cramps you will see a few packages on offense that we’ve practiced on but haven’t implemented yet. It will be a good game and I’m hoping we come out with a win and everyone on both teams healthy.

I didn't realize you could start two guys to replace one.

Wait a minute. In the other thread I was told the Neers was over rated. I don’t have a dog in the fight. Which is it?

They are. No way they are the 4th best team in the state in 3A. I was just pointing out they play big in big games. They almost get beat at home by Marshfield then turn around and blow out a pretty good Reeds Springs team 30-0. Eventually their big game magic will run out. I think it happens this Friday.
Seneca 34 Mt.Vernon 20

They are resilient. They lost their starting RB who was one of their best players to a tore ACL and just plugged a few other kids in there and haven’t missed a beat. I think they only dress about 40 kids.

If Seneca is going to win, the better put it away early. If it is close, late in the game, Cox just seems to invent offense for his kids. They probably are ranked too high, but until somebody exposes them, they will be there.

Mt Vernon will be one of the first to fall in districts, haven't played a real team all year except week one and barely escaped with a win, even then it is just the cubs.

Mt. Vernon is not the 4th best team in class 3. Numerous bs flags against Seneca and only 5 or 6 against Mt Vernon. They are good and they played a good game but the refs basically decided this game. Yes Seneca had a bad play call right before half but other than that they held the offense to 14 points.

Oh, the refs handed Mt Vernon the 21-0 halftime lead? Gotta hate when that happens

That’s a bunch of whiny BS. Officials didn’t decide the outcome of that game. Seneca scores late to even make it that close.

Did you watch the game? I’m one to not place blame on anyone but come on it was flat out ridiculous how many crap penalties were called. There were Mt Vernon players spearing numerous times when the ball carrier was down but not one was called.

You’ve never seen me post anything like this before but we need to be honest with ourselves, Seneca does not looked like a well coached team. They overall have made some progress since McF has arrived but they just kill thenselves with stupid penalties!! Play calling is bad. Winnable games have been out of hand the last two weeks before the playmakers have their number called.

I agree. Play calling has been bad especially the last play of the first half tonight.

Ozone had a good story on the game. Can't believe they didn't mention the critical bad officiating that plagued the game.
