Home of the Cubs!!
Mt Vernon comes in ranked 3rd in the state, Monett moves down to class 3 after spending last year in Class 4. After two years of trying to get back on the winning track, this years Monett team has the potential to finally do that. It is going to be Monett's ground and pound attack versus the high flying attack of the neers. I think this could be the game of the week in SWMO.

Its at home, that should help. Mt Vernon should still be good, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Not sure the change in class really makes a difference, the schedule is still the same. It will be key not to get down multiple scores.

I think for a team that is trying to rebuild knowing there is an opportunity at the end gives them some confidence. When your battling week in and week out to build something and know that Webb stands between you and any kind of playoff success I am sure it can be a downer.

Totally agree, alot of people in Monett feel this years team can be decent and win some games, there was some talk we might have a chance to get to the class 4 district title game, but in the back of your mind you knew you were going to have to face Webb at some point in that district, and at this point they are just on a different level it is what it is. So now to move down a class and know what you have you start to think hey we string some victories together we might be able to set some lofty goals. But everybody knows how tuff this district is, it will be no calk walk. MV is the favorite until the aren't, just nice to be able to know you have a chance. But right now it just feels different than the last two years did...

I can tell you it just seems to feel different, You know from my post the last two years I knew our cupboard was pretty bare, but now I think we have some pieces in place that I think we can compete for conference and a district title. Like I said in the other post, MV is the favorite until they an't no more. This will not be an easy game but I really believe if the Cubs play smart they could sneak out with a victory.

You may just get another shot. Sounded similar to the Reeds Spring game at Mt Vernon last year. But they didn't convert on the two pt play.

Monett will be tough. Maybe playing in class 4 last season toughened those younger boys up!

I would love to say yes, but really we only played one game in district and lost to Neosho, everybody else we played was in the big 8.

The last two years we really didn't have much talent as the Jimmy and Joe's were thin, last year we also switched offenses. This year they are better, not were they want to be yet, but better than the last two years. Hopefully the kids keep improving and come district time they should really be tuff.

And this is what I like about this district format, you can improve coach your kids up and not have to worry about a loss like this.

Sooner we let this one slip away. So either Monett is a lot better or MV is not that good.

This was an interesting game to watch. Monett dominated the L.O.S. on both sides of the ball. They allowed MV to make 5 or 6 big plays, and that was enough. Just an observation, but MV has some questions at the QB spot. Maybe it was just 1st game jitters.
