Latest mshsaa directive . Gaiters are not to be worn during game. Understandably, a gaiter could be grabbed resulting in a horse collar type injury. Yet, per mshsaa guidelines, players have to wear a mask when not participating - example on the sideline. How are coaches going to deal with this? Where does mask/gaiter go when a player enters the game? How are they kept separate and clean. And if it’s ok to not wear a mask and tackle and block someone from an opposing team - is it really necessary to wear a mask on your own sideline?

the end of the world as we know it...

They will only have to worry about this for two weeks when the next MSHSAA directive is issued canceling the season.

All face coverings are acceptable, regardless of the situation as long as they have BLM printed on them and clearly visible

From what I've seen these are the most popular face coverings among kids and teens. So naturally it's the type singled out and banned.

According to an article in the WP, whose content is often suspect, a Duke University study found that buffs or neck gaiters may be worse than no face covering at all.
Haven't gone into depth on the study so don't shoot the messenger.

My wife claims she saw a video that shows they are ineffective. I always nod and go along with whatever she says.
I've heard that as well and that they are actually worse than no mask. Dont really get how theyd be worse but I'd buy them being less effective which is probably why kids and teens like them... they dont care about getting covdid just about breathing comfortably.

They can't wear them on the sideline if they are going in and out of the game, you would need an army of people disinfecting hands and handling the masks. Not realistic if they think that is what schools are going to do. Also players box is extended to the 10 yard line for social distancing, but coaches box is the same. Going to be hard to monitor kids if you can only get within 15 yards of them.
