correct

Pete Adkins is the most successful high school football coach this nation has ever seen. His winning percentage is the best in the country for coaches with 100 or more games and he is the third winningest coach in football history, at any level.

Adkins’ overall record is 405-60-4. He began his coaching career at Centralia High School, where he went 51-12-2 in seven seasons (1951 – 57). For the Jays at Jefferson City High School, he has compiled a 341-48-2 record in 36 seasons (1958-93). When Adkins started his career at Jefferson City, his teams went 76-1-2 in his first 79 games. They did not lose a road game in his first decade with Jefferson City and his teams have never lost a Homecoming game.

The Jays have had 14 perfect seasons under Adkins and 20 unbeaten regular seasons. Akdins has had only one losing season in his career. He has won eight state championships, the most won in Missouri. The eight titles are the most in the nation in the big-school classification for the various states. His Jays have won three of the last four and four of the last six state championships. The Jays have been to the state semifinals, or beyond, eight straight years. The Jays are 71-2 in the regular season since 1986 and have won 24 straight in the regular season.

Here is a Pete Adkins question to fill time. In his first year at Centralia, they were part of the Quint City conference. Who were the other 4 schools?

Louisiana and Shelbina are correct. Monroe City was a Quint City member but did not restart FB until the early 60s. Knox County later than that. Maybe 66.

Dang, I thought I had it.
On a less serious note, Pete only went 1-2-1 in the conference in his 1st year. When FB was over he became the basketball coach and after that season, the track coach I think the 1st game he ever won as a head coach was against a conference school, a Catholic school that has not existed for over 50 years. The other school in that conference is still a conference member with Centralia in the CCC.
Other question: where was Pete from?

I'm almost positive Macon was not in the Quint City. Brookfield and Clark County only recently were added to the CCC. Palmyra and Highland seem too far away. Guess I have to be wrong about Macon?

Have zero clue on the other now defunct Catholic school.

Can we call it? The suspense is killing me and apparently only me.

Here's a Pete Atkins to kill time.

What school did Pete Atkins interview at before he went to Jeff City but was turned down the job?

It was Palmyra. At times before and after, Macon was in the Quint City before then and the next year but not that year. Highland was not created until the 70s.
McCooey of Hannibal was the Catholic school that closed it's HS in 66 and gave Pete his only conference victory that year.
Pete went 2-6-1 in his 1st two years in conference games. Macon rejoined the conference along with LaPlata in 53 so Hugh Dunn and Pete Adkins coached against each other for 4 years. Centralia won the 1st three, but Macon won the 1956 game 45-6.

Somewhere in that timeframe is considered the GOAT Macon team, could be '56. They are frequently recognized at homecoming. Gets the bluehairs all misty and whatnot.
