Class 6 Playoffs 2011
Who will Win in the Quarterfinal Round?
?
Here is a look each of the Class 6 Quarterfinal Matchsups of the 2011 MSHSAA
football playoffs in the quest for the Show-Me bowl title. Take?a look at
each Friday pairing and our selection in bold of "who will win" this week.?
Just two victories separate these teams from their goal which can be attained at
the Edward Jones Dome.? Let's look at the pairings.
?
Class 6 Sectional Pairings: All Games Friday at 7:00
PM
DeSmet(9-2) at St. Louis University High
(8-3)
why: On October 21, SLUH edged DeSmet 37-31 on the strength of
a Trevor McDonagh to Cameron Stubbs touchdown pass. This time
the Metro Catholic Conference foes will meet at St. Louis U. High after playing
at DeSmet in their district meeting.
?In the SLUH victory McDonagh passed for 424-yards and 5
touchdowns, completing 21-of-36 passes. This season he has passed for 2700 yards
and 23 touchdowns.
DeSmet had no answer for Bill's receiver Stefan
Sansone who caught 5 passes for 145 yards and a pair of touchdown
passes. For DeSmet Oklahoma bound senior Durron Neal rushed for
165 yards, caught 4 passes for 66 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. Junior
QB Conner Harrison passed for just 126 yards and a pair of interceptions.
This will be another tightly contested battle.? The
Spartans must find a way to pressure McDonagh if they hope to advance.?
Neal is a special player who can put his team on his back and score in many
different ways.? Harrison must play better and if he is able to take care
of the ball DeSmet advances to the semifinal round.
?
?
McCluer North (10-1) at CBC
(10-0)
why: CBC has been solid all season remaining perfect against a
solid schedule that included DeSmet, SLUH, Howell, and Zumwalt West all teams
still alive in the Class 6 playoffs.? While the Cadet offense gets the pub,
the defense hasn't allowed more than a touchdown since September.
Dalton Demos has passed for 2200 yards and 29 touchdowns.?
On the ground Antonio Brown and Jonathan Parker have combined for nearly 2000
rushing yards and 30 Cadet touchdowns.
Since falling in their season opener to Jefferson City the
Stars have earned 10 consecutive victories.? In a down year overall for the
Suburban North the Stars were the class of the league.? QB Galen Brown has
passed for 1300 yards and 17 touchdowns. Antwaun Williams is a 1300 yard rusher
who has scored 12 times.? The Stars are athletic enough to match up with
the Cadets, but unless they can sustain long drives the Cadets will advance.
?
Fort Zumwalt West (9-2) at Francis Howell
(8-3)
why: Overlooked at 1-2, the Jaguars have earned 8 consecutive
victories including a shocking 49-21 defeat on the road at then No. 1 ranked
Jefferson City to advance to the district title. Earlier this season West earned
scored a last minute touchdown to escape at Howell with a 34-28 victory. In that
game West stars Ray Harris and QB Drew Hare
were kept largely in check.
Howell QB Eric Siebenshuh and West QB Hare
can fill the sky with quality passes. While Hare has passed for 2500 yards and
25 touchdowns, Siebenshuh has passed for 2600 yards and 28 touchdowns. Howell
features a pair of 1,000 yard receivers in Alex Strong and Corey King.
These districts are close, these friend ships are tight.?
These teams know one another very well.? West will win this game, and in
the end it will be Harris who has combined for nearly 1,500 yards rushing and
receiving and has scored 31 touchdowns.? He will be the difference and the
Jags will advance.
?
Rockhurst (10-1) at Blue Springs South (9-2)
why: In what seems to be an annual tradition Rockhurst will
face one of the Blue Springs schools, this year it's South for an opportunity to
advance to the next round of the playoffs.?? Earlier this season
Rockhurst earned a defensive struggle as they defeated South 16-3 in the third
week of the season.
In that victory Rockhurst QB Nick Jones completed just 3
passes for 115 yards and scored on a short 4th quarter run.? Jordan Walker
rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown.? South QB Connor Harris passed for
just 74 yards and led the team with 68 yards.
The Hawklets held the high scoring Jaguars to their lowest
scoring total of the season as they average 35 points per contest.? It is
this defense that gives the Hawklets the edge and will help them advance to
defend their title.
