Guinn, who had fought through two combines, received the payoff he was looking for in the form of an invitation to the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, on December 16.
“It is a dream come true,” Guinn said. “I can’t put it into words, but I wanted it so bad. I knew I had it in me.”
Guinn turned heads at the combine in Las Vegas with 14 reps in the bench press, a 4.44 40-yard dash time, 10-3 broad jump and 4.19 shuttle, all were best in the combine for running backs.
Only the top 110 seniors of 6,750 were chosen for the all-star game, which will be broadcast on ESPN3 and Impact Football Network.
One thing that excited Guinn is the fact that more than 650 college scouts will attend the game. He hopes that exposure helps land him a scholarship.
“I’ve looked at a couple of schools, but what I want most is as close to a full ride as I can get,” Guinn said. “I don’t want to have my parents paying for my college.”
According to the Blue-Grey website, in the last three years, 90 percent of all the game’s participants have landed a scholarship of some form.
The game is set for Dec. 16, and kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Coaching the teams this year are former NFL players: Mark McMillian, Dallas Cowboys; George Teague, Philadelphia Eagles; Arlen Harris, Los Angles Rams; Randall Cunningham, Philadelphia Eagles; Troy Brown, New England Patriots; Mike Alstott, Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Brian Proehl, Los Angles Rams; Ray Crockett, Denver Broncos; Lorenzo Neal, New Orleans Saints; Bryon Evans, Philadelphia Eagles; and Larry Centers, Arizona Cardinals.
