A pair of Monett football players need some community support if their dreams of playing in an Australian All-Star game are to come true.

Monett senior Michael Branch and Darian McCracken have been invited to play in the 2016 Down Under Bowl, presented by Down Under Sports in Brisbane, Australia.

The Cub duo will represent the Central USA division and would be the first trip out of the country and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The pair are needing to raise a combine $10,000 by June 1 in order to fund the football trip.

Those who are interested in donating can visitwww.downundersports.com and click on the section titled "sponsor athlete." From there, sponsors can choose name and donation amount. All donations and final payments must be completed by June 1.

The players are selling shirts for $25 and to buy one, people may contact Darian McCracken at 417-489-8818.

This is awesome! I hope they can raise enough. I will be donating. This is a much more accurate number, $10,000 for two people to go to Australia. Unlike J'den Cox. His family has a gofundme asking for $21k!!! Granted they are donating extra funds to special Olympics, but still....

I don't really know why you felt the need to bring J'den Cox into this. Since you did, I'd just like to point out that SOME of these All-Star games are a joke. They simply just want you to make money for them (they don't care about the ability of the athletes). I know of an instance in another sport where some athletes went to Australia for an all star game and these kids were not even honorable mention all conference, nor would they have even started on most teams. They were just chosen and they raised the money.

J'den Cox qualified for the Olympics. I do not know anything about his family situation or gofundme page nor is it any of my business.

I just think that being an NCAA national champion and qualifying for the Olympics is a little different than 2 high school kids (who I did not see on any all state list, please correct me if I am wrong) going to play in an all-star game in Australia.

I don't mean any disrespect to any of the athletes involved because I don't know them nor have I even seen them play. Nor do I know anything about this particular all-star game.

Personally, I would not ask anyone to pay my way for anything, but that's just me. If someone wants to ask for money for a cause that is his/her right and anyone can choose to donate or not.

I'd love to go to Australia or Rio! Good luck to all of the athletes involved.

I will just interject here...But all he talked about was the money it cost to to travel and that was just for Cox's family,m he never said anything negative about Cox. However from there you decided to go into the gutter and run two kids down instead of the money. Shame on you...

Please explain where I ran 2 kids down. I don't know any of the people involved. I was simply calling out a guy who felt the need to bring J'den Cox's family into a thread that had nothing to do with him. Good luck to ALL of the athletes involved. I can't help it if your reading comprehension skills need work. Shame on you!

and I quote your veiled intentions there was no need to mention the highlight part you did it for a reason. ... I just looked up the all state teams and did not see their names listed. Again just making the comparison to an Olympian vs. not being on an all state team (and just for the record in my opinion there are all state caliber athletes every year that don't make the all-state teams.)

Like I said in my original post I meant no disrespect to any of the athletes (who again I don't know and have never seen play) My point was for the poster who brought up J'den Cox. My apologies to those young men if they felt offended for me saying that I did not see them on any all state list.

While it's a neat experience to go Australia, it's not a big honor to be selected. Basically they send these things out to a lot of kids and see which ones can pay their way there. Not dogging these particular kids, just stating facts. I used to get these every year when I was in high school for football, basketball, and baseball and was by no means a stud. It's a money maker for these organizations that put them on.

Agreed, sometimes they just look up school rosters. Not saying anything negative about these two athletes, but have seen non starters get them as well.

Bullit said it perfectly, I am not dogging Cox at all. I hope he wins a gold medal, I just think asking for 21k is a bit much. Ive traveled to numerous countries and never once came close to spending 21k. Now it was just me and not my family but still, when two days are for travel, and only 3 actual days will be in Brazil, 21k is too much. In the gofundme page it doesn't mention aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, etc. It just says family. To me that is mom, dad, and any siblings. I will not help fund someones entire family to go. If they want to bring 10 plus people, certainly those ten people can come up with some money. $10,000 for two people is extremely appropriate. Not 21k...
