Monett - Maryville updates

Sounds like Maryville can run all day against Monet. That's not good.

Maryville 12 Monett 7

Both teams have made adjustments to slow the run.

Originally thought Maryville would win 42-21 but this going be a battle.

Bad decision by Monett to fake the punt with less than two minutes to go and on their own side of the field. They could be up 7-6 and receiving the kick to start the second half.

Even if they converted, it's pretty unlikely they'd have scored themselves.

Monett with awful fake punt attempt at their own 40 on 4th and 13 with 2 minutes before half. Maryville scores 2 plays later. I hope that horrible call doesn't cost them the game.

Agreed....I need more coffee

Makeup for the TD on the first drive that was called back on penalty. lol

Can't believe the fake punt given the situation :(

Hopefully Monett's players can bail their coach out in the second for half...

The whistle blew with Maryville in the endzone. The play may not have counted but it happened.
I'd expect better from you guys; play was whistled dead before it began (that's how dead ball penalties work...)

...it's not like holding where the play is allowed to conclude and then the penalty negates the play.

FYI, I do know the rule but I also know when there is a play from the one inch yard line that the play can occur before the whistle is blown, even on a false start.
Very polite, but still wrong; no play occurs on a flase start (definition of a "dead ball" penalty...)

Dat game doe!

See! If that offsides on Marryville wasn't a dead ball penalty, Monett could have declined ;)

When I saw the high punt snap for Maryville, I was saying to myself, "Pick the ball up and take it end the end zone for the safety." Maryville would still be leading 18-16 and have a free kick from the 20.

I thought Maryville was the 5th best team in the state, all classes.
Maryville is a very good Class 3 team that would not have won Classes 4, 5, or 6. They would not even be in the Top 5 in some (maybe all) of those classes.

And you realize the same thing happened to Monett? QB sneak into the endzone, whistle and penalty for illegal motion. Difference being, Monett overcame the penalty and went on to score while Maryville could not.

Just to clarify, my point was a rules point, not an "overcoming" point; the very definition of a dead ball penalty is that play is stopped (unlike live ball penalties like holding where the play is allowed to finish only to then be negated by the call).

I know this scenario well because my son's team was blowing out another team facing the exact same scenario that Maryville faced at the end of their first drive; this team had apparently scored on a QB keeper (as the ball had been snapped and the kid was standing in the end zone), but were called for a deadball false start. Our coach tried to decline for mercy's sake, but technically he couldn't because a false start is a dead ball foul (play technically never happened...)

Nit picky maybe, but it would be like a QB throwing a bomb that's caught in the end zone as whistles are blowing to stop the play...

I know you weren't the one to bring it up originally and you were just clarifying to rule to someone else.
