and he says he has a lot of years left in him. Will the Cardinals actually spend that kind of money for any length of time on a guy his age? I'd like to have him around for another 2 or 3 years to catch, and be a mentor to his replacement, whoever that might be. BUT I don't think they should break the bank on him for a long term deal. What say you?

3 years and pay him. More than 3 years then take the Pujols route. They need to stick their money into a #4 hitter next year. Machado

They all talk about loyalty but in the end it's always about money. With the noise coming out of Yadi's camp I don't expect him to be a Cardinal for life. And I'll be OK with that. These guys who think they should be paid top dollar when they can't perform at that level anymore are ridiculous. They've all made a lot of money by the time they get to this position. Then they start throwing out the loyalty and disrespect and crap like Pujols did. It's too bad they can't all be like Matt Holliday. He understood the deal and accepted it. He didn't whine and complain and go out on a bad note. He still wanted to play so he simply found somewhere he could do that. I fully expect him to be welcomed back into the Cardinal fold when he finally hangs it up. I'm not sure Pujols ever will. I hope Yadi doesn't choose that same path. I'm not saying he can't move on to another team if he really wants to play longer. But I hope he does it with grace and not bitterness.

Yadier hasn't been the same guy for the last 3 years that he was in 2012-2013.

We're talking about a soon to be 35 year old catcher who is going to have 1700+ games played after this year.

It's going to be dependent upon what he does this year, but the idea of signing him to more than 2 years is brutal to me. Catchers age in a hurry.

I'm not at all opposed to the idea of letting him play out the season followed by giving him a QO if he has a decent year. You improve it by giving him a second year offer like hey we love you come back.

The offer seems to be 3 years for 55 to 65 mil. It would give him more per season than Posey, which seems it be what he wanted. No word on it getting done yet and time is running out. We'll see how bad he wants be a Cardinal his whole career.

That third season is brutal

If he were a FA right now who would give him a 4 year deal?

I would have let him play the season out.
