No particular order: Merk Bernsen, Jim Glash, Dave Manzer of Mechanicsburg, PA, Denny Aye Of Marshalltown, IA and Douglas Stottler of Grafton, IL. Look for decision next week.

You are so far off base I can't believe it! Some of the names you name are correct, but there are lots more. How do I know this? I have a pipeline which I bet even YOU don't have!

BTW, I am coming to Moberly at the end of July. Tell me how I can get in touch with you. I'm looking forward to that. If you don't want to reply on this format, call my cell phone 214-505-6417, for confidentiality.

Grey3dog, why do you think you know everything? I've seen the letter from President Jorgensen's office listing the five exact names mentioned above as candidates. They are having "meet the candidates" forums this week and next week for the five. Little Bucket isn't "so far off base." I don't know if Little Bucket has a pipeline or not, but these are the five. Geez.

I know from where I speak and I'll guarantee you my pipeline puts your's to shame. You don't know what you think you know. Your pipeline is leaking Grey3Dog.

Little Bucket, you seem close to the situation, so have you heard who seems to have the inside track? Having covered Olney Central basketball for a time, I know Glash is a great coach.

I think it's funny that we argue over who has what "pipeline." But anyway, to be honest, I'm not too impressed (on paper) with the five candidates. Now saying this, I have never met any of them personally and do not know their coaching styles.

I do know that Stotler's Lewis and Clark team finished seventh in the NJCAA D-II national tourney this year with a record of 24-11. He seems like a decent candidate, probably my choice over Olney's Glash.

I do not know much about Bernsen, but he has the mid-major coaching experience. If he's wanting to settle down into the juco level, he might be good.

Manzer out of PA coached some NCAA D-III Christian school and don't know much about him either. I have never been impressed with Marshalltown, therefore Denny Aye does not impress me right away.

Again, these are quick assessments which I wouldn't put a lot of value to. I don't know the coaches backgrounds that well, or their styles of coaching, which could make a huge difference. But I do fully trust MACC's decision, whomever they decide on.

I'd personally take Glash of the five. Granted, I know him from my short sojourn in Illinois, but he is a great coach. He uses a lot of Coach Bess's methods and expects his teams to give 100 percent. Besides, his record at Olney Central (OCC) is superb. His Blue Knights teams have reached the Region 24 finals twice in the last four years and are usually at or near 20 wins every season. OCC handed Wabash Valley its only loss in its 2001 championship team, and lost in the region finals by one on a final shot. If Glash ends up in Houndtown, you'll have a keeper -- and a worthy opponent for us down here in Raider Nation!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sounds as if you might work out at the college. In what capacity?
Let's me and you and DangJack get together when I come up to Moberly at the end of July and

bluff_sideliner i guess the coach from eastern oklahoma did not make the 5 finalist for the Moberly job. Maybe you can clear up something for me however......... His team did win the 3 Rivers Holiday Tournament at Thanksgiving this past year didn't they? I remember reading the article on the game in the Daily American and it talked about how the eastern team was one of the few to every come into Blackburn Colisieum and man handle 3 Rivers. Did you watch that game and what were your impressions of the eastern coach and his team? I had heard that Moberly was very interested in the eastern coach but it looks like that was just here say.

I kinda had the same reaction when I first read the list DangJack Maybe I was expecting another Dana Altman to jump out at me. I know a decent amount about 3 of the candidates but as you say we don't have all the information. I know less about Stotler and Manzer. I have not heard or read the official release and I haven't been able to run down the exact school Manzer is with, so I know nothing about him. I am just going to sit back and see how everything turns out and hope for the best. That is all we can do. We just have to trust the powers that be to make the right choice. I think Pat is involved in the process so I trust him to do the best he can for us. Glash seems pretty solid.

Eastern Oklahoma (EOSC) did win the tourney, the first team besides Three Rivers to do so since 1996. When they beat Three Rivers, they did look good, but we also looked bad, especially after halftime. Still, you have to be a VERY good team to put a 17-point whipping on Three Rivers at home. EOSC played national runner-up Redlands very close twice in the regular season and was quite sharp from what I heard.

bluff_sideliner thanks for updating me about the eastern coach and his team winning the 3 rivers holiday tournament. i remember reading several raider fans post on this board plus the newspaper account about coach voight and his eastern team. i was somewhat shocked whenever i saw the 5 finalist for the moberly job and it did not include coach voight from eastern. i had heard that several big named ncaa coaches and maybe even a former moberly coach or two had given the eastern coach their endorsement for the position. anyway thanks bluff_sideliner for the update and what you saw.

Manzer has Div I experience as an assistant at Miami(OH)U. and I think 1 other place. I read an impressive article on him in the Cincinnati paper last year. I am impressed with Glash also. Bernsen is interesting. He went from a Div I to Div II to wanting a Juco job. He did a very good job at Jeffco when he was there though. I will trust whoever is picked.

Also, I looked up the Coach from Marshalltown and he was very successful at other Jucos before coming to Marshalltown. Maybe Marshalltown is an impossible situation.

Coach Glash's credentials aren't too bad either. He spent 4 seasons as an asst. at University of Illinois of Chicago, a season at Div. III North Park College(IL) and a few seasons at Kennedy-King and Columbia College(CA) Juco's. North Park won a Nat. Champ. his only year there,I believe. He has been at Olney Central since the 1996-1997 season.

Glash would be my favorite although I have nothing against the other guys. Our gain would be your loss I believe.

Now I don't know the details or the circumstances, but a lot of people on here like Glash. I may be wrong, because like I said I don't know his circumstances (injuries, etc.) but when we hire a coach from another D-I school I'm expecting someone who goes to the national tournament on a regular basis. Glash's record wasn't all that impressive this year and he has been there a long time. This concerns me. But like I said, I could be wrong. Maybe they don't have the facilities we have and the tradition of course, so who's not to say he would really blossom while at Moberly.

Anyway, just a thought and I could be wrong. Maybe us Greyhound fans have become spoiled and we now expect too much!

I think Glash has had the misfortune of competing against Wabash Valley during there great run and now SE Illinois(kind of like Jim Morris at Iowa Western competing against SE Iowa & Indian Hills). However, better men and women than me will be making the decision.

Glash's team this season was a lot like Moberly's two seasons ago. Alot of talent that never meshed. The facilities at Olney Central are nothing compared to Moberly's. And yes, there is Wabash and Southeastern Illinois in the same conference. But Olney Central has held its own against those two over the years.

STEPTOR, I was a little surprised of your assessment of Bernsen. At JeffCo he never had a Region championship. He did have some good pretty good teams I guess and you have to take into consideration that Moberly and TRCC were very dominant in the years he was there. Aside from that I would hope that the Hounds come up with a better role model than Bernsen. He had a nasty reputation at SMS for his foul mouth and he was the same way at JeffCo. Maybe he's had a conversion experience since then. Don't get me wrong I don't expect them to hire a person on the basis of his faith in God, but if he hasn't changed he crosses the line of decency as far as I'm concerned.

Gusheimer, I really don't know much about Bernsen. The only thing I remember about him was when he took a very undermanned Jeffco against one of the best collection of players I have ever seen at Moberly in 84(Richmond, Bledsoe, Day, Milling, etc) I believe Jeffco came within 1 refs call of winning the series. I felt it was a great coaching job. Other than that I don't know anything about him.

He had some good local talent but nothing compared to Moberly's squad. I don't think he has recruited that well wherever he has been plus he plays a slower style it seems to me. I don't think he is a very good fit for Moberly.

Jefferson did not recruit nationally. Practically all their players came from St. Loius or within a small radius outside the city. I think I read his teams won 20 games or more 4 times there. That 84-85 team of his was tough. They had a litle point guard nmed Glenn Sanders who the Hounds had tried to recruit, and they had a guy up front named Ivy who had gone to Iowa his freshman year. Seems like the the second playoff game that year was OT. and the third game was 2 or 3 points. I am like Step. I recall them playing a methodical, half-court game. Don't know if he stil believes in that, or if he was just playing according to the talent he had. His record at UMSL was horrible, but maybe it wouldn't be fair to place too much emphasis on that.

Without having met any of the candidates yet, my early favorite in Stottler from Lewis and Clark Community College (Ill.). His team finished seventh in the country this past season at the D-II national tournament. With a D-II school, Stottler's team only lost to Three Rivers by 8 last year I believe. He seems like a coach on the up.

I'm definitely not a big fan of a coach who is currently at another D-I school and not going to the national tournament year-in and year-out.
