IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 2 Mizzou wrestling and No. 1 Iowa competed Sunday afternoon at the Carver Hawkeye Arena in an action packed matchup, as the Tigers came away victorious with an 18-12 dual victory. The win clinched Mizzou's perfect 24-0 regular season, and also earned them the 2015 National Duals Finals championship.

Mizzou won six of 10 contests today against the Hawkeyes, including four of the first five matchups. After building a 12-3 lead halfway through the dual, host Iowa roared back with a pair of wins to make it three-point contest.

Redshirt freshman Willie Miklus delivered a key victory at 184 pounds, defeating Alex Meyer by 6-5 decision. Sophomore J'den Cox followed needing a victory of any kind to clinch the Tigers' National Duals crown. The Columbia, Mo. native came through in a thrilling contest, as he defeated No. 6 Nathan Burak by 4-3 decision.

Cox's win moved his season record to 30-0, and has now won an NCAA leading 50 consecutive dual matches. Also clinching a perfect regular season was redshirt senior Alan Waters, as he defeated yet another ranked opponent in No. 5 Thomas Gilman. The Kansas City, Mo. native closes his season with a perfect 27-0 record with 10 of those victories coming against ranked foes.

Following Waters' win to open the dual, redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes, redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt and sophomore Joey Lavallee recorded consecutive wins to put the Tigers up early.

All 10 of the Tigers and Hawkeyes matches today resulted in decision wins. The largest lead of the day was nine points by Mizzou on two separate occasions.

Up next for the Tigers are the 2015 MAC Championships. Mizzou hosts this year's tournament, as their conference rivals travel to Columbia, Mo. from March 7-8. For ticket information on the MAC Championships, visit MUTigers.com or contact the Mizzou Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-CAT-PAWS.

Winning as a team in Wrestling is by far the toughest accomplishment you can do compared to any other sport. Mizzou fans should be pretty excited about that.

I wonder if Coward was planning on starting a wrestling thread on here? #onlywatchesthingsthatmakehimwhine

I believe atleast 17 of the MU wrestlers on the roster are from the Mighty MO.

Yes that is correct. MU has really put effort and pride into making the roster from almost all home grown talent. Their T-shirts said "Missouri made." Coach Smith has really put MU wrestling on the board. I believe Ben Askren was MUs first national champion in any sport?

Is the Bounous fkid rom Monett still wrestling for Mizzou?

I think one monett kid is wrestling for Stanford...Stauffer is at ASU. #mizzoumade was coined by a former football player turned GA. Name eludes me...thinking a DB from a couple of years ago.

Kellen Bounous from Monett has already graduated from Mizzou. Chase Brennan from Monett is a freshman wrestling at Mizzou and had made a few appearances in the starting lineup this year.

Kyle Meyer, Monett and Dan Scherer, MICDS, both wrestled at Stanford and graduated last year. Both were also academic All Americans. Stanford wrestling last year had 3 starters from Missouri - Meyer, Scherer and Ryan Mango. They also had at least one other Missouri kid on the roster.

Do you know if Ben Askren is coaching any where? I had heard he returned to MU to be an assistant but the trail went cold after that

Ben Askren is heavily involved in MMA. He has held 2 titles I believe. He is also
involved in promoting wrestling in general. He and his brother Max are involved in wrestling academies and clinics. He is not coaching in any college program.

This was quite the accomplishment. Beat them on their home floor. First time ever a non-member of the Big 11 (schools that have won a National title) has won this event. First time someone outside the Big 11 has been ranked #1 ever during the season. However, there have been many times where a team has won this event only to finish outside the top 3 at the National Championship.
